Stumbled upon your forum, thought I'd say hi. I'm currently restoring a 1970 Mk3 Spitfire. Later this year I'll be competing in the Round Britain Reliability Run - a 2000 mile trip from one end of Britain to the other and back again over 48 hours. The Spitfire will have some mild tuning done on it's original 1300 engine (ported head, tubular manifold, race cam, etc.), and shiny new paintwork in Triumph Signal Red, plus a fully retrimmed interior and hood. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

Welcome EG! I, too, have a Spitfire and love it! (except for the oil leaks). Looks like you're doing it right! Any idea when you expect to have it completed? (I'm currently 10 years into a 2 year restoration on my EType /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif )

Cheers,
Basil

I bought the car on eBay last June, and expect to hae it back on the road by August this year. It would have been sooner, but finances became a bit tight. The total cost of the restoration will be around £7000, which is a lot more than I could have spent on a decent restored Spitfire, but I wanted it done right. The bodyshell has had about 90% of the panels replaced with new, and I will also be upgrading the brakes and suspension in due course. The aim is to have a practical classic car which I can use every day and keep forever.

Welcome to the Forum! My first Triumph was a Spitfire, would still have it if it hadn't been run over by a 4X4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif I still think they are beautiful cars.

Welcome. You certainly are starting this project in a commendable fashion. The paint looks beautiful. Please post more pictures as you progress.

Welcome,

the spit looks great, alot better then the one I had with flames on the hood and tiger colored carpeting.

yeah baby

I'll add my welcome! The Spit looks great so far, and your ultimate goal is most commendable! I've been dreaming of running the RBRR for many years now. One of these years, I'm hoping to get over from the US, round up some of my UK Herald anoraks/buddies, and have a go at it!

Cheers from across the pond. Glad to have you, best of luck in your resto and the rally.
I'm just getting started on my latest project, so here we go!

Welcome,
Best of luck with the restoration! There are numerous Triumph Masters on this forum.

Welcome, looks like you are off to a fine start. My first car was a 74 Spit and I have had several since. They are wonderful cars. I am new to the BCF as well. Watch out, this forum is addicting. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
