Just bought a 1968 Midget and just found this forum. I hope you all can answer a few questions and forgive me if these are old and/or worn out threads....

1) I bought a new top (hood) for the Midget and have yet to find a really good resource (with pictures) on installing it. Most of it looks straight forward enough but I sure would like to see some detailed drawings or pictures on the header bar portion. Is there anywhere online I might be able to find this?

2) This car has an HIF type single SU on it and could use some adjustment to smooth out things as it periodically stalls and is hard to restart. Is there a difference in the timing settings for this carb from the stock twin SU settings?

In doing vintage motorcycle restorations, I have found that there is usually a definitive web site out there that has most if not all of the answers plus a ton of pictures. I'm hoping the same will be true of the MG. Any recommendations?
I'm not a total mechanical idiot, but if that guy ever dies....... ;-)

Cheers!!
Jim

'Morning, Jim, and welcome to the Forum from a curmudgeon in training. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If you'll do a search here, you'll find several threads which address your questions, especially about installing the top. I don't remember if there were any that referenced a source with pictures, but may well have been. Someone with a better memory than mine will probably come along shortly with an answer. And I'm restoring an MGB, so I'll need the info, too.

Interesting question about the timing, and I don't have an answer for that. It sounds more like a problem with the carb or maybe a vacuum leak somewhere.

Keep us posted on the carb situation.

Hi Jim!
I've got a list of about 50 links on MG's - if you'd like I'll PM them to you (I've gathered them since June so they should all still be good).

I'd be glad of any links you could provide!

Ta! Mate!

Just sent it off via email. It's an HTML file.
You'll get 2 emails - because I got a brain cramp and forgot to attach the file to the first one! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Good luck!
