newbie question bj7

I recently bought my first Austin Healey. It's a 1963 BJ7.
In the middle of the nineties it was imported from the USA to the Netherlands. It's a beautiful car but I have a question. It has a shroud of a BJ8. I haven't seen this before on a BJ7 in my country and according to pictures that were with the car this was already so when it was imported. Does anyone know if this occurs more often to Healeys in the USA or if there an other reason for this.
Maybe its beacause of shortage of parts in the past.
I hope someone can give me more information.

Regards,

Dirk

HI Dirk, What makes you think the car has a BJ8 shrould on it??--Keoke

Dirk, 1963 was early BJ7, even the early BJ8 had a similar shroud, if not the same, the front side lights and the rear lights were the principle difference and I am not sure if the 'boss' sizes varied between them. Have you got the larger side lights, or seperate side lights and indicator lights up front?

They actually stopped making BJ7s in Sept of 1963 and began the BJ8 in October of 1963, according to my book.

My BJ8 nwas built late Oct. 63 and therefore a phase I (single turn/parking light). I see no difference between it and the 7 on the out side and I have been parked near many 7's over the years. Although I wasn't looking for anything.

Tahoe, you are quite right, I was shooting from the hip with the reply, the early BJ8 (phase 1) was the same as the BJ7, they did not change the lense size until the phase 2 model circa May 64. Then the twin lamps came in circa March 65

Thanks for the reactions.

Bob. My car has indeed two lights (separate side and indicator lights) under the front lights and also separate lights at the back. I haven't seen this before on a BJ7 in the Netherlands. That's why I was wondering how this was possible. In the books that I read I could'n't find information about this. All the BJ7's that I have seen before always had one light on the front and one at the back.
The car was originally sold to Germany (late January 1963).

Also the man from who I bought the car didn't know anything about this.
I hope someone can tell more about it.

Dirk

Tadoe thanks, i already have a certificate.
I replied in the post 'Newbie kind of! BJ7 shrould'. Dave gives a possible explanation there.
