Hello MG People. I am in the market for an MGA, so I figured that I will read all I can, and stay glued to this forum. My first car, 50 years ago, was an MGA 1500, with a Judson on it. After this short recess, I am ready to get back in the game.

For some reason, I was expecting a forum for MGAs. As this is an all-MG forum, are there many MGA folks on here?

I have heard rave reviews from a friend active on the Triumph Forum, so I am looking forward to "auditing" this forum.

Lastly, if my questions seem stupid, just consider the source. I will not be doing much work myself, as I am the original Gordon Badwrench, so my car will be ready to go.

Thanks in advance,

Phil

Phil, Welcome to the forum! Lots of good information on this forum, along with lots of nice people willing to help out. Good luck on your quest. PJ

Phil,
Welcome to the forum. Good to hear you want to get back into this mess. As we age our minds grow and normally the body does also. So fine one and check the fit. The next thing that grows is out joints. They grow stiffer. Be sure you can get in and out of an MGA ok. I like the look of a 1500 but the drum brakes on the front are not something I like. Alot of MGAs suffer from poor body alignment from poor rust repair and collision damage. Many older reproduction MGA grilles did not fit very well. Be sure you can live with the grille fit before purchasing that special car. If you find one anywhere near the Charlotte NC area I will be happy to look at it for you. Check the NAMGAR classifieds. You just may find what you are looking for. Bob

Phil - There are two - a coupe and a roadster, both needing restoration, but solid - that will be at auction in October in Alabama. Along with a bunch of other cars, tools, parts, etc. Check the announcement page here for Tony's auction, and stay tuned. More details to follow.

Oh, and welcome, indeed!

Welcome! I also started with a 1500 MGA.

Now, 42 years later, I've moved up to an MGB.

Cheaper, much more common, a bit easier to live with and still a true British sports car.
I *get* the appeal of the MGA and don't blame you for preferring them, but the B is a great alternate.
G'luck whatever you choose!
