New Wizard Radiator

Brosky

I am starting to get boxes out of the house, much to my wife's enjoyment and this was a big one to take apart. This is the new Wizard Radiator that I purchased. Bob in CT (another Mimosa TR6 owner) highly recommends them as do a few other guys in CCBCC.

I had them do it with the later style 90 angle on the top so that I can run a nearly straight stainless steel hose from the thermo outlet.

I got the big 16" Spal fan from them per TR6 Bill's recommendations. I will have a manual override switch on the console.

They've change it a bit. Mine doesn't have the etched name in the top, and my temp sensor is in the bottom.

What are you going to use for a shroud?

Alan,

I had a lot of discussions with them about three things:

1. Sensor placement, was key after the LONG thread on it here and their stance is that the bottom of the radiator is coolant that has been cooled, versus the top that is getting it right from the engine and that was their object to cool quickly.

2. Shrouds are not recommended by Wizard, so nothing is planned.

3. I noticed on Bob's that the Wizard logo was facing the front. I wanted mine to face the rear of the car because of the way that the hood opens. They realized what I was saying and did mine to suit me. I will be painting that in in red, of course.

Now I need to get out of the house and buy some red paint and a 1/4" NPT petcock. Things are coming together for an engine installation this week.

I never would have thought of that.... My logo does face the opposite direction.

Paul...I did have to cut the top threaded stud on the passenger side to get the carbon cannister to fit. Let me know if they've fixed that. I had also priced Griffin & Ron Davis but Wizard was the best price for everything you got. I actually got mine through Art Lip https://www.trparts.com/newitems/radiator.html who is great to work with. I ended up having a itsy bitsy teeny weenie pin hole leak at the bottom hose connection. They were shocked as every radiator is pressure tested. They sent me a UPS Account# to send it back next day, and they fixed everything and had it back to me 2 days later in time for the CT Triumph Show. They were great to work with. Scott, Wizard's President frequently puts them in eBay but I'd recommend buying from Art Lipp (who lives about 5 minutes from Wizard's Shop) or from Wizard directly. You will get very personal attention either way. You can see the "experience" here https://tr6.danielsonfamily.org/Radiator.htm

Bob,

I think that I first noticed it in the picture on your website. And I did buy everything from Arthur, at his site above, per your recommendation.

Shannon,

These mounting brackets come welded on by Wizard to fit the fan perfectly, as you can see below:

And it looks like it is nice and thick. What is it? 4 rows?

Ron,

The upper tank and lower tanks are 3.0" thick and the core seems to measure 2.25" thick.

Paul
that looks beautiful. My preference would be to leave it natural aluminium.
Is there any risk of corrosion from electrical leakage on old cars such as ours?
Regards
Craig

Craig,

Oh, it's staying natural. I love that color and it shouldn't be too bad to keep neat looking.

I'm just going to paint (highlight) inside the engraved Wizard Cooling logo in red to make it stand out a bit more and match the engine.

Hi Paul,

Looks outstanding! I would anticipate the performance factor to be the same!

Hey Dale, Are you reading this?

Regards, Russ

Hi Paul,

As has been said, that rad looks great!
I too have the same fan on my car based on Bill's recommendation and I think you need to be warned about one thing with it. This fan moves so much air that in may suck in small children and animals into the grill of your car if they happen to be too close when it turns on. :jester:

And for comparison's sake, the Ron Davis aluminum radiator with Spal fan. I didn't request that they weld in the fan brackets but their universal brackets worked well. My sensor is in the return hose. Works well for me. I use the interior lights switch right in front of the gear shift lever as a manual override switch. (does ANYONE use this switch?) My fan looks different from your's, guys. My wife uses it as a blow dryer after she washes her hair.

That picture shows the thing I liked about the Ron Davis one nicely - where they recess the filler cap. It looks closer to the original rad to me.

That said the Wizard one <span style="font-style: italic">was</span> a lot cheaper...

I like them all. Much better than the old style and the electric fans are far superior than the old red or yellow blades.

That radiator looks great, I'm really looking forward to seeing your car this summer at some of the meets.
I'm thinking of getting an alloy radiator for my car. Unfortunately it doesn't look like Wizard makes a radiator for a TR3. In comparison, the prices they have for their TR4 rads look better than the alloy TR3 rad at the TRF site.

That's pretty good price, thanks, I'll check them out. That's $100 savings over what the Roadster factory is asking for their alloy radiator.
