New valves?

Is it neccessary to by new valves when having valve seats ground?

My valves look fine but there is slight pitting in the exhaust valve seats that grinding compound ain't cutting.

Morris, provided the stems measure out to spec, with no scuffing or scratches, and there is no mushrooming or pitting of the end at the point of rocker contact, you should be able to reuse the old valves. Check the stems and make sure they are straight, and check the area where the keepers fit for wear.
I assume you are having the valves ground? Make sure the shop squares the ends to the stems.

That was an easy one...."the BCF, we answer more questions before breakfast than any other BBS."

Not only that but we get more stuff striped before breakfast than most shops do all day.
