Hey everyone! I just acquired my first British sports car since I sold my Bugeye Sprite while in college back in 1977. I just picked up a '57 TR3A in what appears to be very good running condition with some minor mechanical and a bit more than minor cosmetic issues. LOVE the car! Looking forward to poking around this forum and getting up to speed on what I'll need to know. My first question would be if anyone can suggest a good mechanic in the Bay Area - preferably East Bay? I plan on doing a lot of stuff myself, but I'm sure I'll need a good backup too.

Sorry I can't help with the mechanic. You might want to ask again over in the Triumph forum though, as some folks don't read the Introductions forum.

Or, if you have the time & inclination, consider doing the work yourself. These cars are dead simple (at least compared to modern cars) and for the most part easy to work on. Reprints of the factory manuals are available from the usual suppliers (Moss, TRF, et al); or there are some PDF versions you can download from

I don't know of anyone in the east bay, but the peninsula has 'ye old car garage' who I know well.

Sorry I led you astray. I had to stop by there this afternoon so I picked up a card. It's"Olde English Garage" and ask for Robert Lugliani, 650-344-8030.
 
There are a couple that I know of. I live in the south bay and have a tr3 that I have been working on.

1) On the Road Again - Morgan Hill. They do everything including complete restorations. Last time I visited, they had two TR3 tubs completely restored waiting for the owners to complete the work on the frames before bolting together. They are just off of the freeway. Their address is:

I would suggest doing a search on the internet and checking out their website

They do pretty much any work. They also host events and have a show room with some british classics.

2) There is another shop called Union Jack. As it turns out they are also in Morgan Hill. Union Jack is a one or 2 exists south of On The Road Again.

Last note, there is a british car event on October 20th and 21st hosted this year by On THe Road Again. Saturday I recall is for driving and Sunday a public viewing and judging.

3) Also, there is a Bay Area Triumphs club called Triumph Travelers. They have tech and tune events. I have not attended but recall that they use a location on the East Bay (Fremont?) that also does British Car repair. To find out more, I would suggest checking the Triumphs Travelers web site calendar of events.
