So... what is it? One of the worlds best selling electric cars. from the Chinese car company BYD.
Why.. well it is leasing from work, so no big risk to me and electric cars currently have significant tax benefits so economically responsible. I also am very interested in seeing what it is like to live in the real world with an electric car.
First impressions : it is like driving an IPAD on little screen directly for the driver and a bid tablet in the center of the dashboard. More seriously for a company which is relatively young, and only selling in western countries for a the last few years they have come up with a VERY good product. Anyone who thinks of very cheap Hyundai / Kia cars sold in the '80s/'90s well BYD is not repeating that mistake. Interior feel and quality is as good or better than the Kia Niro it replaces. Level of comfort stuff in the car is also very good including multiple Type A and C usb charging ports in the front and back. Oh and like many electric cars lots of torque and fairly quite.
Now the "downside" it was clearly designed by a Chinese company and is slightly more tuned to maybe a "Chinese cultural" taste? Certainly the "Build Your Dream" slogan on the back seems more Chinese than western. --- and apparently they are planning removing this slogan on future cars. Still this is part of the learning curve and is obviously much less difficult to change than repairing an image damaged by quality control problems.
