New tool from Moss

I wonder if anyone has bought one of the new carb tools from Moss. It is a tool to synchronize carbs. It actually measures the amount of air flow if I understand their blurb. At a price of $66.95 from them it is too expensive for me. Their part number is 375-324. More info at:

It would seem to me that the wire matching setup or the Unisyn would be adequate for the job.

That thing has been around a while.

An older UniSyn works fine, the 'new' ones seem to be a pain.
The wire matching kit also works fine at low RPM.
A 2' piece of 1/4" fuel hose will get passably close with practice, as well.

I bought one 5 or 6 years ago when I was first getting into these old cars. Seems to do the job nicely, and mine is a solidly made tool.

I got one of the Unisyns with the Elderbrock name on it but made in China. When I adjusted it with enough flow to actually move the "bobber" it would choke the car almost to death. Since then I picked up the Gunson Carb Balancer and haven't had a that problem at all. It can be awkward if one tries to use it one handed instead of two but it works great. Plus you can just use the hose and do the listen test if that's your inclination.

I've found the same with the Chinese made version. Almost completely useless.

Yes I have one of those, I think mine is badged as as Dellorto carb ballancer. It works great. I use it on my VW type 2 where the linkage between the carbs is quite long, I can check at idle & higher revs, somthing you can't do by ear as there's too much engine noise.

Bill, how much did the Gunison carb kit set you back??

Kurt.

Gosh Kurt, its been so long I don't remember. I got it at the PDX-ABFM at the then going rate. I see them now (google search) for about $30.
