Finally picked up my '69 Midget yesterday. After a harrowing 375 mile rainstorm drive, we got home around 2:30 this morning.

The car has a rivergate Datsun 210 tranny conversion, and an interesting Keihin CVK40 carb installed.

Photo fun:

Sweet. That carb is interesting!! Where are you in Tennessee?

I'm up in Dover; Land Between the Lakes area.

The car has a couple of (known) issues:

Speedo failure. Either the cable, gear at the tranny, or the angle drive. Don't know which yet.

Radiator. Running a little warm. A flush perhaps.

Exhaust manifold. Leaky at the downpipe connection. Looks like a good excuse for a header install.

That is either a LATE '69 or an early 70 midget. Most '69 had the fat bumpers and old style tail lights.

Either way... looks nice. Are you keeping the carb setup or switching to something more "conventional".

Looks like an interesting find. Hope it works out well for you.

I should say that it is Titled as a '69, as I have not looked into the matter as of yet.

I will be leaving the carb setup as is for now. I'm curious how well it functions. Interest: That CV is standard on various motorcycles, including Harley.

Dover, TN....just down the road from Grand Rivers, KY & Patti's 1880's Settlement....love those pork chops!

Yup Tony, my wife's family is from that area. We did our undergrad work at Murray State. Patti's always had good pork chops and "pot" bread. We still get down there every once in awhile.

My daughter did her undergraduate work at Murray also....& my wife now makes "pot" bread also.....but it took awhile for the pots to 'get right'.

Dover is not too far from Murray, but I think it is actually more closely associated with Ft. Campbell.

That's true; there are a lot of us former 101ST who have retired here. It's about a 35 mile drive to Post~

Bill,

Speedo can be fixed with an add on SIGMA Cyclometer for < $30.00.

I have considered just that for the time being; I did the same thing on my old Moto Guzzi for a time.

There is a possibility that the cable insert is the problem, so that's my first "look at" for the weekend.

Thanks...

There is a special adapter cable needed to connect speedo to a 5 Speed

I spoke with Rivergate about the situation, and apparently I will need to order their cable if I want the speedo to read properly.

I think what they have is an angle adapter that corrects the ratio, and then a cable that mates to that adapter (I think it is a GM end) and the smiths speedo on the other end.

That sounds correct. Mine has the Rivergate angle drive installed. The PO changed out the cable insert with a standard MG when the Speedo failed; that, of course, did not work. So I'm hopful that it's just the Rivergate cable that needs to be replaced.

We have bad weather on the way, so I'll likely have to wait for the weekend before I can take a look at things.

Nice! looks clean from the photos, what does the bottom look like? Let us know how the carb does, would be interested to know.
