New skins

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to shoot some advice my way regarding new tires for my "80" Spitfire. I would feel much better heading down to Mid-Ohio with some new skins. I'm looking for advice on proper size for the spit as well as suggestions as to price, or what company has fair (cheap) prices.

thanks,

In today's tires, the 175/70R13 is a good compromise between more modern specification and maintaining roughly the original tire diameter (so that your speedometer's, uh, "accuracy" won't be drastically affected). 185/70R13 or even 185/60R13 should also work well on your original rims (which should be 5.0").

Tire Rack is a sponsor of this forum, but there are many tire vendors local and national, so shop around. Note that there really isn't a lot in "performance" tires in 13" sizes any more....

Thanks Andrew, I'd like to keep a traditional look. Do you, or would anyone else have any suggestion as to what specific brand of tire looks best?

Thanks

I got Kumhos from the Tire Rack for $29 apiece 2 years ago. I hear Kumho makes racing tires. The ones I got for my TR4 have the traditional look but I don't race the car. They do handle quite nicely through spirited driving though.
