New MINI gas mileage?

I test drove a new MINI and so did my wife. We both really liked it, but she says that a car that small should get better gas mileage. How do real life gas mileage numbers stack up against the EPA estimates. We are hoping that better mileage is attainable. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Are you referring to the MCS or the MINI? My '05 MCS with the 6 speed box averages 30.3 MPG over about 7,000 miles, according the the trip computer. Most of my miles are on interstate, however, the computer showing an average speed of about 45 mph.

I drive somewhat conservatively and don't dog the car. Strange, I still seem to treat it like my Triumph, like I'm saving it for something. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

The regular MINI gets significantly better mileage. Try one of the MINI websites for detailed info.

The MCS is not an economy car, it's a pure sports car. I'll take the 30+ MPG, it's great for a performance car IMHO.

Good luck with your decision!

I have a '02 MCS that has been tweaked a little for more power. My highest was 34 mpg on one trip but I am usually around 32 on the highway. The rgular Cooper is around 4 MPG higher.

One thing to note. While the car is small, it is heavy. 2600+ pounds depending options. I think this is one reason why it is also very safe. Plus very rigid for the twisties.

I agree with vagt6, the MCS is a sportscar. A very fun sportscar.

I didn't think the S got milage that good! That's good to hear because my wife wants to get one.

By the way, I haven't seen you post here since September - where you been hiding?

Basil
