"New" MGA 1600

I have just acquired about 800 car parts which hopefully will turn into a 1960 MGA in the next year or two. It came with two engines, the original 1600 (I was told) and a 1500. Both of the engines have heads that have "15" cast into the rear-top of the head. I also have a 3-main 1800 engine for my '64 MGB which has an "18" cast in the back. This leads me to believe that the 1600 motor should have a "16" and not a "15" on the head, can anyone verify?
I don't know which engine that I am going to use (16 or 18) but I am curious.

Re: "New" MGA 1600

Both the 1489 and 1588 cc engines used the head with '15' cast on it.

The 1622 cc engine used in the Mk 2 had larger valves, a '16' cast on it, and was identical to early MGB, excapt that they changed the casting mark to '18' for that model.
