New MG cars

Okay, so these will probably never see the US market, but MG have launched a sedan and a wagon with American V-8s. The engine is from the Mustang, and will retain the Mustang logo on the top of the engine. They are rather conservative to look at, talk about sleepers!

Are you thinking of the MG Land Speed Record Car presently at Bonneville? It's a Z-wagon, and has a Ford V-8. It's supported by MG, but I understood that it was just a "one-off". Is there more to this?

Yep....they are going into production. My latest copy of the MG Owners Club magazine arrived yesterday, and they had a test of each car.

This isn't the current issue, but it should tell you enough. A 4.6 litre Ford V-8, 302ft/lbs of torque........Yummy!

Sounds like a great addition to Rover's lineup. However, at the current exchange rate of $1.80, the cost range of US$50,000 to $60,000 is more BMW 5-Series territory than BMW330i, Jag X-Type, Volvo S60 that the Web site mentions as its competitors. In the US, those competitors are $20,000 cheaper than the MG.

After all, for only $50K to $60K you could buy one of those Ford V8-powered Sunbeam Tigers currently being advertised on eBay!

You have a point, but keep in mind that the MG would be a lot cheaper over here. Your can buy a Jaguar in the USA for less money than you could in Coventry, and a bottle of fine single malt Scotch is a fraction of the price charged back in Scotland. Taxes play a large part in the pricing that you see quoted for the UK.
