New to the forum. Own a '67 MGBGT that I bought already restored. Car has run just fine for the last 1 1/2 yrs (maybe a total of 5000 miles ) but now I have a mysterious noise that appears to be coming from the rear of the car. When you put on the brakes, SOMETIMES, it grones. This with the trans in neutral and the clutch out. The brakes don't grab, the none of the tires drages or leaves any mark on the road. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gifAnyone with any ideas?

Hmmmm, Are the brakes still working as well as they have in the past? I have had several things like that on my '72 roadster. The graoning could be that the front brakes are doing most of the stopping. I know you said that the noise was coming from the rear but that can fool you sometimes.
1. My rear brakes wear after some miles and need adjusting then everything is fine.
2. The rear linings are worn out and you are getting metal to metal sound with the shoes scrapeing against the drums.
3. Your axle seals are leaking and oil from the rear end is getting on the brakes and causing them to not hold thus the front ones again doing most of the work.
4. your slave cylinders (one or both)are leaking fluid on the brakes and causing slippage and loss of braking in the rear. Again the front doing most of the work.
In the 23 years I have owned the MG, all the above has happened at least once.
