New Member with a 1985 TVR 280i

Hello all.

I just joined this forum last night. I am trying, but not yet hard enough, to get a 1985 TVR 280i that I bought 4 years ago on the road. I had it out once last year, after having a "knowledgeable" mechanic almost burn down my garage, which is a part of my house, while fixing the fuel pump check valve. Subsequently, the fuel pump gave up the ghost. It has now ben replaced, but the bosch injection distribution unit is sticking. I also need a windshield, and a right front fender repair (it was that way when I bought it). I have a son-in-law who is a mechanic, but he never seems to have time for my project.

My first car was a 1966 MGB that at 18 years old I drove both the break and clutch seals out of using American brake fluid. It was a challenge driving with no clutch and no brakes. I sold it after 10 months (in 1973) but am thinking about buying another MGB once my TVR is on the road.

I live near Washington, DC and look forward to hearing from other TVR owners and for input regarding what to look for when buying an old MGB.

Hi Leonard, when you go MGB shopping, bring a magnet, small mirror, small screwdriver for poking frame, rocker panels & floors. The #1 MGB killer is: rust rust rust rust rust rust rust rust rust rust rust rust rust rust.

Oh, did I mention rust? Any you can see is just the tip of the iceberg I promise you. They rot from the inside out; the primitive unibody design is loaded with water traps, with drains never ever maintained by lazy previous owners.

Go for the BEST cond. body you can find, and afford ... MGB mechanical bits are easy and cheap, rust repair is a NIGHTMARE on these!
