I've been around British cars for many years...I've owned 2 MGA Mk II's and now working on a 1959 Austin Healey Sprite Bugeye race car. I'm restoring it, but it is a challenge since it was modified as a race car.
I found it in a garage last summer and it would not move...brakes were locked up. I pulled the drums and installed all new brake drums and flex lines, brake/clutch master cylinder, brake fluid, replaced the old fuel, re-wired, added tacho, fuel and voltmeter guage, installed new battery and voila, it started with almost 60 lbs of oil pressure and, shhhh, no leaks yet.
I added a new fuse block, and now working on the lighting. I have the brake lights working OK. Not sure I'll install headlights. I will add a flasher and turn signal, electric fan in front of the radiator and new racing seat w/6 point harness.
Fuel gauge is a problem...not sure if the sender is NG. I may have to pull the tank. I did a lot of research on the wiring and seems it's the sender.
I'm not sure of which muffler to install. While working on the brakes I slid the exhaust pipe and muffler over and it broke off at the header. They were rusted out anyway. I would like to install a muffler and short side pipe, but...we'll see. Any suggestions?
My dream is to take it up to Lime Rock in northwestern CT.
BTW the name on the car door says "Rich Aubin." The car was bought by my brother-in-lawin 1972 in NJ. Anyone hear of him?
Any suggestions are encouraged.
