New Member... Old Friends! [an introduction]

Offline
Well, I just joined tonight. Posted a few replies, and at least one or 2 new posts.

So now I'll Introduce myself to those who don't already know me (the old friends part!).

My name is Kenny Pinerton III.
I own and drive (almost) daily, a 1977 MGB that I've owned since February 2004 - my first LBC ever - not to be the last - But I hope to have it long enough to see that last one!

I bought my 1977 MGB for $700 US dollars. I have since fixed the fuel system, the brakes, the clutch, some normal lucas wiring deficiancies, and have ressurected it from the 6-7 year slumber it was in. In the process, I have fed it about another 1200 or so dollars. So for less than $2000, I have had one of the most reliable, fun, enjoyable cars and the experiences it has given me.

I'd have to thank Vicky Brit (who got almost $1000 - and sent me a wonderful thank-you card for doing so), and Tony Barhill (The Autoist - who got most of the rest of the money) for everything else but the v-belts (advance auto parts).

This has been the most exciting car I've ever owned. Not just in the car itself, but in the comraderie, friendships, waves, thumbs-up, looks, and interesting conversations that owning this car has so-far provided. But also in the nicest atmosphere that these other people you meet while driving an MGB seem to either go to, or live in.

To quote a very old ad I once saw...

"You meet the nicest people in an MGB."

Now that I think of it... It wasn't an MGB ad. But it works for me! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

hi to all my old (lifetime) friends!

"You DO meet the nicest people in an MG!"
Welcome aboard Kenny!
Mine is a '71 GT daily driver I picked up in Moose Pass, Alaska for $1K. I put over $6K more into her, leather seats, new carpet, shox (Armstrong), dash, gear reduction starter, new paint, and a bunch of other things. This is my second GT (first was a '67 when I was 25 - 52 now) My first car was a '72 Midget (driven off the show room floor!) and am presently working to re$tore a '69 C. I've owned as many MG's as I have Chevy's. (Friends don't let friends drive Ford's)
As my Pa says - "I'd rather PUSH a Chevy than drive a Ford"

That's funny (I've pushed as many fords as I have chevy's), but I've had better luck with fords than you have. But this isn't a NASCAR fan board, and I've only owned 2 GM products (a 1981 Pontiac Firebird and a 1973 Buick Apollo) and 3 fords (a '89 Escort, a '85 T-bird, and a '98 Ranger)... All the Chevy's I pushed belonged to old girlfriends.

The first 2 fords I gave away (but they got me there when I needed them to - barely sometimes), the third they took back (missed a payment that was due on my wedding day - no call or anything - the bast*rd's - it was an honest mistake on my part, but not so on theirs - I had enough to make 5 payments when they took it, and got money back from them as I barely drove it [25,000 miles total in 4.25 years] and it fetched more at auction than I owed on it). Been buying Japanese ever since.

My favorite - 1989 Honda CRX - fast and fun in the corners (like my MGB)!
The most troubling 1995 Toyota 4Runner - but after I fix the head-gasket it'll be my best investment yet (and good looking for a small/mid 4wd SUV).
Coolest looking - 1995 Nissan 240SX - Too bad it didn't have an exciting engine - drove like a tractor.

Anyway, I guess there are lemons in even the good stuff.

I've decided I'm only buying good looking - easy-to-work-on sportscars from now on. If only I could find that $2000 E-type with no rust... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Kenny - Glad you made it over here...you'll soon find lots of your old buddies have migrated! This is a fun - & nice - place, no back biting, haranging, name calling (well, except for Janel's 'hooters') - jusy FUN!
