Hello everyone,
My name is Dean Parks. I own a 1969 TR6, commission number CC32137LO built in December of 1969. His name is "Oliver" and I have owned him since 1991. I purchased Oliver in Sacramento CA and drove him to work 5 days a week and autocrossed or rallied him on the weekends for 7 years. In 1998 I moved to Wisconsin so I now only drive him in the summer. Well, up through last summer anyway. His engine finally gave out coming home from the fall vintage races at Road America. I purchased a engine from a local guy here, but then got laid off from my job, so I have not been able to get it in the car. The engine is supposedly from a 1973 TR6 and ran "great" when it was removed from the donor, but that was 5 years ago. Maybe by next summer I can get it in the car. I want to rebuild the original engine, but that will have to wait for a while. Oliver was originally signal red, but the previous owner painted him mimosa yellow. I am still debating between the original red or BRG.
Nice to meet you all. I am glad to have found this site. I would post a picture, but I don't know how.

Hi Dean (Dino);

Which name do you prefer?

"Welcome" to one of, (If not "THEE" best sites), for British Motoring at its finest! Here you can ask whatever questions you may have. Make un-biased comments or suggestions. Do whatever pleases You and Your TR6 most.

Introduce Yourself and Your TR to the folks on the "Triumph Forum". They`ll "ALL" welcome you with open arms and wrenches.

Have Fun Here and Best Wishes with the Job find.

Russ

Welcome Dean!

You'll fit right in at BCF! Like you, lots of us here have owned Brit-cars for ages.

Best of luck with the employment situation.

By the way, one of the BEST things you can do with your replacement TR6 engine BEFORE you put it in will be to swap out the thrust washers.
They are real weak point in TR engines and can cause an engine disaster if they get too thin.
They're easy and cheap to change.

Thanks for the welcome Russ. I prefer Dino.

Thanks for the reminding me about the thrust washer. I will replace that for sure.
This is only my second British car. My first car in high school was a 1970 MG Midget. That was in 1980. Unfortunately I sold it. So I was looking for another MG when I came across this TR6. An MGB would have been a better daily driver, but the TR was in the same price range and it has overdrive. Oliver has been a great car. I have put over 100,000 miles on him and he never left me stranded on the side of the road. Except the time I tested the gas gauge a little to far, but that was my fault!

Welcome Dino from a fellow Wisconsinite. I'm a little south of you in Portage. I can't imagine moving from CA to WI. I hate winters/snow and I'm ready to move south once the last child is out on their own (5 years).

If you go to the vintage races at RA this summer I'll keep an eye open for your TR. Most likely I'll be in my black Z3 as all the LBCs are in restoration process right now.

Hi Dino, and welcome from another resident of the frozen tundra! Like David above, I am not a fan of snow and ice, and would love to move to a warmer climate.

Shame about your engine packing in like that. I went to those vintage races as well, that is such a fun event.......

Thanks guys, its nice to have some local members around. Sometimes it seems like I am the only Brit car nut around here. If you guys ever come for the Iola car show let me know, I live about two blocks from the show grounds. We can have BBQ and some NewCastles.

People ask me why I moved here from CA and I tell them temporary insanity! But really we were looking for a better place to raise a family. It's pretty nice here, but the winters are just way to long. We need more global warming! I hope to move more south and west eventually.

Hopefully my TR will be running next summer again. I bought a used engine that has not been run in at least five years, so I hope it is in good shape. As long as it lasts until I can get my original engine rebuilt I will be happy.

Hope to see you around...

Now, THAT sounds like an excuse for a wee road trip, up to Iola..... There is another member of the BCF living on your doorstep, maybe that's who you bought the replacement engine from? He bought my dad's old basket-case TR3 a couple of years back......

Don't know if it the same guy or not. Do you remember his name? This guy had a GT6. He never mentioned a TR3.

There are actually a few guys in the area that have British cars. The former long time editor of Old Cars Weekly lives down the road and is now into MG's. He has a couple of TDs. A guy in Waupaca has an MG or two, and I have spotted a couple of TR's driving around, but have not met the owners.

Hi, Dino, and welcome to the Forum. Picture posting is not hard, you'll figure it out!

Thanks for the welcome longbridgehealey. I figured out how to post pics in the members picture area, but I was trying to post an image in my post.

Check this video. This is for when you have an image on another web site and want to have it display in your post. Otherwise, user the "File Manage" link that is at the bottom of editor window when making your post. With the file manager you can upload images as "attachments" (Note there are file size limitations when uploading files as attachments). If your image is not too big (file size) it will be displayed in-line in your post, otherwise, if its too big it will display as an attachment (link) that people must click on to display the image.

This video is for placing a picture in a post when you have the picture residing on a web site somewhere already:

If you like yellow ck out the yellow that was used on the 1976 AMC Pacer X. It would also be easy to find your car in the SNOW. PMC

Pacer X............what a sweet ride!

That would be the vehicle of choice to pull up in front of "The Lodge" at the Pebble Beach Concours.

A friend of mine once did a great job taking a picture of my yellow Pacer X and made it look like I was at the P.B Concours With a Water mellon on my head. I miss that guy. I think he moved to Wis. PMC
