I tried to buy an MG TD Back in the 70s before I got my driver's license. My father convinced me I needed something more practical so I ended up with an old buick. In 81 I sold the buick and spent a summer putting a 1969 MGC back together. It was in pieces in a garage. The gentleman I bought it from let me use the garage as long as I needed. I loved that car with the rust, worn out seats, only a tonneau cover for about 6 months. The tires were mismatched, used but cheap. Over Christmas break from college it got rebuilt rockers and new front fenders and a top. The fenders and rocker parts were a Christmas/ birthday/ college graduation gift from my parents. I remember the top came from Sears. I drove it for 5 years. I moved to upstate NY and bought another car for a daily driver because of all the snow etc. I got an offer for the MG and stupidly sold it. Fast gorwad to about 6 months ago. I started looking for an MG. I bid on several on different auction sites. I finally found a 1951 MG TD in really good shape within what my wife said I could spend and I bought it. It was 2000 miles away and after trials tribulations for about a month, it's here. Body is beautiful. Interior is very nice. The under side is very clean little to no rust. Timbers etc with no rot. It was frame off restored in 2008. The engine starts and runs well but I haven't driven it yet. Brake lights aren't working, tach and speedo aren't connected. Clutch doesn't totally disengage. It had a top that was never fitted. It came with 2 pallets of spare parts including an extra bonnet, fuel tank, doors, engine cylinder head, gearbox, windshield frame. And boxes of parts I havent gone through yet.
Well I wanted something to love and work on.
