Just purchased a 64 RHD Lotus Elan S2. A transition car with many S1 features. I'm not new to British cars and have owned the following since 1974:
3 Sunbeam Tigers (Mk1, Mk1a, and Mk2)
3 Sunbeam ALpines (2 series II's, and 1 series IV)
1 Mk1 Sprite (Bugeye)
15 (at least) Morris Minors
4 Lotus (2 S2 Elans, both RHD, and 2 M100's)
1 Land Rover

I look forward to the site and thank Tahoe Healy for introducing me to the site.

Doug,

Mine is 26/4050. Your 3892 would make it one of the last S1's They started making S2's at 3901. What color was yours? Did yours have a dash with a glove box door?

Let's see ... I think that was originally White,then Blue,then finally
Red.
The Series "1-1/2" had the full Series 2 dash, but the Series 1
taillights.
After 15 years,I finally admitted defeat (that I'd never finish-
it),& sold it (at a loss - something I swore to my Wife wasn't possible).
I was told by someone at Dave Bean that the new owner had something
like $75-80K into it!
Incredible driving cars!
