Hello Everyone! New member here from the GTA. I have a 1961 Austin Bugeye Sprite. 948 with original 4speed. Mostly stock except for front discs, exhaust and cam (previous owner). I'm not an expert mechanic but fairly hands on. Bolt-ons bolt-offs, brakes, changing fluids I'm okay with. Rebuilding engines, replacing clutches, I'll leave to the experts. Looking forward to learning and sharing knowledge with fellow members to help keep the hobby alive and preserve a piece of automotive history!

Lovely Bugeye, have I seen it at Bronte? whereabouts are you? I am in Etobicoke? BTW - it seems like the double devil's bugeye - 666 - 666 :grin:

@John, I'm in Markham. I haven't taken her to Bronte but I'm not sure if the previous owner has. But I do know there are at least 2 more dark green Bugeyes with black interiors in Ontario. Do you know of any good mechanics nearby?

@Reid, The beige on red is definitely a pretty rare combination! I've only seen a picture of 1 other one on Bugeyeguy's website (where he lists the original colors). To each their own, but she looks pretty good to me too! :encouragement: Green on black isn't my first choice of colors but I feel fortunate enough just to own a Bugeye! Can't quite justify replacing perfectly good paint though, otherwise she'd be iris blue.

Whereabouts in Markham - I am writing this from a conference at the Sheraton Hotel at the Leslie & Highway 7.

What do you need mechanically? Probably the best is Jule Enterprises in Milton https://www.jule-enterprises.com/ - there is also the British Sportscar centre in Stouffvile - I know literally nothing about this place except there are always lots of cars there. https://www.angelfire.com/on/britishsportscar/about.html and the Autofarm in Monkton ( a little further out is highly regarded. https://www.autofarm.net/
 
I'm on the east side. I don't need anything done immediately but it's good to know where I can actually take it when I need to. I've been to the British Sportscar Centre before. Trevor is a pretty decent fellow. I still plan on going back there. Problem with his shop is it's extremely busy. I've heard of Autofarm as well as other highly regarded shops but most are pretty far away. I don't really need a full fledged BMC shop, but even a regular shop with a guy knowledgeable in british cars that's not too far away would be fine. My gut tells me there are LOTS of guys who's worked on midgets/minis/etc for years around here hiding in ratty shops pretending they only do honda civics and toyota camrys!

I suspect you're right - certainly I wouldn't hesitate to bring my car to my mechanic in Mississauga. Reminds me of an episode of Car Talk a few years ago where a woman with an older Volvo called in with an issue. One of the brothers says, "you need to find a good mechanic." and the other interrupts and says, "No! you need to find an old mechanic." - one who knows about carbs and things like that. :grin:
