New here, 05 Lotus Elise

Joined the board a couple days ago but I've been too busy to really post anything or introduce myself. I'm a relatively new Elise owner from Kentucky. My heritage before the Lotus consisted mostly of early watercooled VW's but I've always had a soft spot for British cars (Minis & TVRs especially). Anyway, just wanted to say a big hello to everyone /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My 05 Elise (Krypton Green, touring package & hardtop)...

Welcome, that is one heck of a nice little car! Stop by the Lotus board and say "Hi", there are a few of the faithful who stop by every so often. Did I say what a sweet little ride that is? Be interested in its reliability for you.

The car has been pretty reliable so far but not without a few minor hiccups (nothing drivetrain related).
<ul type="square"> [*]The windows were far out of adjustment upon delivery, I was able to get them closer to "correct" with the hardtop on but once I switched to the soft top there was a whole new window gap appearing.
[*]A little rubber piece that keeps the fuel lid flush with the side of the car is missing after a couple thouasnd miles.
[*]Driver's side turn signal has some condensation, needs to be popped out and resealed which is something I'm going to let the dealer handle this one time because there have been issues with the retaining clips snapping so I'd like to see first hand the "proper" way to remove them.
[/list]

Aside from those quirks the car has been nothing but a pleasure for me. I drive it VERY regularly and am constantly impressed with the experience.

edit: Just to note, the quirks I've seen so far are FAR less than I had expected to find during ownership. Lotus seems to have really made leaps and bounds in the build quality department.

Welcome.......

If I had to buy a new car it would be an Elise, G-4 or a Fisher Menace.

You made a great choice........Hope you are pleased with it and BCF.

Welcome....so, how do we sign up for test rides/drives?

Welcome indeed - excellent choice of vehicle, too.
You could have picked Racing Green, then it would have been perfect!

Great car......First elise owner on the BCF??

naye, there's another I've seen posting a few times. I believe that fellow went through 3 (or was it 4) sets of tires in his first year of ownership, but that guy also regularly goes to track events with it.

From what I've seen the sport pack tires (Yokohama A048's I believe) aren't much more than slightly grooved slicks. They stick like mad but at the cost of very fast wear. A couple of owners have replaced them in under 10,000 miles.

I'm happy to offer up rides any time I'm in the area (or someone is in Louisville). I noticed someone from AL was asking about it, my wife and I travel down to Gulf Shores once or twice a year. Maybe next time I'm through we can meet up and I can take you for a quick spin.

Welcome in! This place is ~very~ active and ~very~ friendly!

...I like your choice of a ~proper~ new car to own, too! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Don't feel bad.......I'd probably have trouble keeping tyres on it also /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
