Hello. Having owned and restored three Austin Princesses (a saloon and 2 limos) plus an Alvis TC21-100, and MGTD and a few MGBs, I am currently doing a "garage" restoration of a 1956 DM4 Limousine. I have the interior done, but not installed as I have the glass out and plan to paint before I install the glass.
Speaking of paint, I have had the body vapor blasted (fine ground glass and water vapor) to the bare (mostly aluminum) metal. It is inside a heated garage and there is no visible corrosion so far.
I want to prep the metal with etch/etch primer, but want to do it one panel at a time, and don't really want to load up the gun with 2-part etch/primer each time. Has anybody successfully used the self-etch (green) primer in spray cans for panel-at-a-time etching primer ?
Also, the rear window glass is to be "smutched" in, held in place by blocks, and surrounded inside with the wood rim. I'd like to keep water out, but would prefer that no sealant show at the glass/metal rim. Is there a secret to doing this ?
Thanks - John Averell (Pine Island, New York, USA)
