New guy wondering - What have I got myself into?

Greetings everyone. New South Jersey member here with a 59 TR-3A project car - s/n 31577 LO. It's a unique situation (well maybe not so unique…)...anyway I have bought a partially completed ground-up, that someone else started and ran out of money part way through. The challenge will be to take a bunch of boxes of parts that I had nothing to do with in the dis-assembly, and try to put it back together. Are all the parts there? Well that remains to be seen when the car and all the boxes arrive...

The car is a 2 owner rust free San Diego/AZ car that will be coming up to the Northeast. The previous owner spent a bunch of $$ in the restoration to date - powdercoated frame, all new drive train etc etc, with all the dirty work done. And most importantly, all panels have beeen professionally re-fitted - this was the stage where he ran into financial problems. I have bought the whole lot at a significant discount. It looks to me like the makings of a nice concurs car. But having said that, I am not against a daily driver at all - it's just the hand I've been dealt so to speak. I'm thinking of this more like a nice piece of art begging to be completed.....it's my second ground up, so I kind'a know what I'm in for (my first one was a Sunbeam Tiger. I have ordered the heritage certificate and will be putting it back to the original colors - whatever they may be. (I think it's plain old boring Signal Red with black interior but we'll see) I have been talking to Triumph Rescue but am not 100% finalized at this time on who will do the final body prep and paint. And I'll sure be leaning on the expertise on this forum for help with all the little gizmos and brackets etc I'm gonna come across, if you guys will have me.... Wish me luck! Here are a few pix....Enjoy,…Bruce

Welcome to this fine forum. I suspect you already know it is the best. We love pictures here, too so thanks for those.

Looks like you figured out the picture posting! Man, you have the making of a really fine TR there! Welcome aboard!

Thanks guys. I'll be arranging the shipping next few days. When the car arrives I'll update my thread with some new pix, having had a full tutorial on picture posting from Basil). I'm sure I'll be having a lot of "what the heck is this?" moments..

Welcome from a Delaware Valley area local. Matt at Triumph Rescue is excellent and I have also seen very good work done by Bill Thomas (William Thomas Roadsters) out in Frenchtown, NJ.

It looks like the start of a great project.

Welcome, indeed!!

...and you think hiding that TVR inna background would be a likely "cover" somehow?!?! :jester:

Howdy Bruce,

"Welcome" to "THEE" best "LBC" forum bar none!

"Congrats" on your "New/Old" toy. I`m in the same process with a `57TR3 Small Mouth. You surely look as though your off to a great start.

Introduce Yourself and Your Car to the Folks on the "Triumph" Forum & Ask Away, Post Away or Whatever You`d like to do.

I lived in "Belmar" about 100yrs ago. Watch out for that dreaded "Salty Air" down there.

Best Wishes,

Russ

:savewave: Hello Bruce, and welcome to the Forum!

Bruce...as Basil stated..very nice starting point...welcome and keep us posted...

Welcome!
Nice looking project! I had a '58 TR3 (40 years ago :jester: ).

I've actually been to Sewell. I spend most of my childhood in Jackson and still have many relatives in that area.....I get down there every couple of weeks.

And, yeah, I noticed that TVR too.
I used to go to the TVR Woodwork show every year (with my Sprite).

You'll fit right in here!

Now that's brave! Taking on a half-done car is a mixed challenge; as you say, let's hope everything's actually there, but the Best Of British Luck with it. I used to drive past the TVR factory in Blackpool a couple of times a week...

Welcome Bruce....

That's a great start you have there...... good enough to drive even without the body.
Can't wait to see pics of the finish product!!

Nice project. Don't get scared by a car that is apart when you buy it. I have purchased 3 that way and actually I love the puzzle putting them back together. You also miss the work of all the rusty nuts trying to get the body panels off.
