General TR New Guy, interested in Triumph

Someone thought I might want to put my new guy intro also into Triumph section.

Long story short starting the process of research on buy 1, likely 2 triumphs in the next couple of years

1 (TR4/A or TR250) to restore on my own and 1 (TR6) to drive while I restore said #1

Would love insight, opinions on good starting points of research. Any 'essential' books needed for my library on restoration specific to Triumphs or ordering parts?

Cheers,
Scratcher

Arguably, the best first thing to do is find a local club and join it. For example, Nebraska Triumph Drivers, contact William Redinger, 402-496-2006!

I've talked with the Flatwater Austin Healey Club but hadn't seen an actual Triumph club, will definitely be contacting them!

Actually I looked in some old emails and it turns out I had reached out to Bill already, they are part of the Flatwater Club so bad on my part not following up with him earlier.

The Moss Motors TR catalogue is pretty much an essential; same with Victoria British. You can get them both online from their websites.

For a wealth of information, Bill Piggott's book, Original Triumph TR4/4A/5/6 is the "bible". Expensive, but worth every penny. https://www.amazon.com/Original-Triumph-TR4-4A-Restorers/dp/0760317380

Good luck with the hunt!

Oh, and of course, you've found the right place for insight, practical experience, and even commiseration when needed. (And it probably will be at times!)

Scratcher, I sent you a PM before I read this thread, we used to have a separate Triumph club, but as noted now everybody consolidated into the FAHC. All British cars are welcome, we have about 150 members, two TR250s that I am aware of, lots of TR6s and a few TR4s, and 4as.

Finding a good car locally can be a bit of a challenge, but patience and some old fashioned networking helps. I know a little about the cars you are interested in, having restored my current TR250 a few years back, a 4a many years back, and a good buddy has an early TR4 I have helped him with from time to time.

Share your journey with us, so we can live vicariously though the hunt....and photos as you go are highly anticipated. Welcome.
