TR6 New Glove Box TR6

I have a new plastic glove box from Moss (the old box was a piece of deflated cardboard!). But I can't make out quite how it is supposed to fit ... has anyone done this job, and if so can they give me pointers?

I'm now reinstalling everything under the dash. The heater box is replaced with its new motor (boy that thing blows hard in the fast setting: it was blowing screws around on my bench!), and working well. For info, I'm documenting everything I do on the car here (very much a work-in-progress).

Julian, for curiosity's sake, does the Moss box have the circular hole for the interior light? I got one from TRF last month, and it came without the hole; I was a little disappointed.... no mounting holes, either.

I've done it that many times I could do it blind folded. If I removed my air hose from the heater box to the dashboard outlet and the steel brace from the firewall to the dash, I could slide the box up under and behind the dash and jiggle it into place (a little cursing helps) with the metal dash flanges on the inside of the glove box. Then insert your fixing screws thru the flanges into the glove box. Did you note how the cardboard one was held in place? I'm also assuming the plastic one is identical in shape to the original.
I just fibreglassed my cardboard one and it is as strong as a steel one!!

Craig

I also had to cut the hole for the lamp. You will need to save the hardware from the old box.
I installed mine before the heater ducts were in. I don't have any lasting memories, so it must have gone smoothly.

Thanks! No, there is no hole for the light - seems like a general oversight. I will use a vintage instrument covered lamp holder instead of the original holder which leaves the bulb exposed.

Craig: my air hoses are removed, and the brace is moved aside. I can easily move the glove box into position, but I was unsure whether the bottom lip of the box should go over or under the metal flanges of the dash. How does the box attach at the top edge?

Also I wasn't sure about the wire for the light switch: how is that routed?

I do have the fitting parts from the old glovebox (the screws and tabs), but I don't think I'll need the tabs.

Julian
the tabs I'm talking about are the metal ones behind the dash. My glove box fits in place with the tabs on the inside. The screws go thru the tabs and into the glove box to secure it.
Regards
Craig

Thanks Craig. Any chance of a photo?! I *think* I know what you mean, but a photo would help /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Ah, ha! Great picture. Forgive the intrusion,
but I must ask.

See the little catch tab centered at 12:00 o'clock,
roughtly, of the glovebox?

That latch catch has/had an L-shaped metal bracket
with screws. I lost mine. I managed to reinstall
the latch catch without it and it works, but not
without heartache that would likely not have happened,
if I had the part.

Does your car(s) have such? And if you go right to
TRF and show me it's there, I'll be both pleased and
embarrassed, because I've spent little effort on
correcting this minor issue.

Thanks,

WOW! You guys have CD's 'n zip-lock plastic bags in Oz?!?!

...who'd a thunk it... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

There's s'posed to be a li'l "rubber baby buggy bumper" thingie in the center of that lock/stop tab, isn't there?

The little rubber thingy bumper dubrit mounts at the side of the glovebox, rather than on the top, on mine.

2wrench: my catch plate screws in to the metal dash surround with two screws, nothing more than that.

Nice photo: thanks! I'll post a pic of mine when it's done.

I'm not sure what part you are referring to, but my latch catch has 2 screws which secure it to the top metal tab. There is nothing else there.

Doc
I got tired of trying to insert a vinyl disc into the car stereo, when I noticed these new fangled silver discs wot play music.........that one is the best of Louis Armstrong. The zip lock bag has the remaining metal clips for my passenger door rubber window seals.
Yes the rubber stop is missing from the glove box latch and also from the light switch.

Craig
P.S. and don't we speak English well??????

Craig, I'm just amazed. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif
