New garage/shop

Needed to reshingle the house and do some other work and figured the interest rate may not be this low again for quite some time...so...there's an new garage/shop in my near future.

In a nutshel, freestanding 24'x24' with 10' walls and a central ceiling height of 13'. Poured concrete floor, lap siding on the exterior and painted sheetrock on the inside; separate breaker box with 110 and 220 service. Fully insulatied and reverse cycle heat/AC. Two post lift and epoxy floor coating; two 10' roll-up doors. 4'X8' shed on the back with external doors for compressor, parts washer, and sand blaster. Enough cabinets (with doors) to hold all my small tools, supplies, parts, etc; large tools all on wheels for easy movement outside. Should be able to turn a hose on inside and wash out the whole place.

Details at https://www.raysmg.com (click on the "Garage" link).

Yahoo!!! Finally, a home just for my LBCs.

Cool, Ray.

But you may want to edit your post - ph. number, etc....

I used to like people on this board a lot more, but then I have resentmet issues /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif Actually, I like leaving the phone #, then I know where to visit & drool!

Looks great! don't forget rough in compressed air pipe throughout and drop down trouble lights etc from ceiling. It's going to be awesome!

Man am I a bit sad that I don't have one in my future.

That's going to be a nice place to work, Ray. I'd love to have a shop/garage space separate from the regular garage, but space on our property (1/3 acre) is not going to allow that.

Good luck with the construction!

I started the thread because I'm certain I will have some questions as the work progresses and this will be a handy place to come back to for future posts.

I know what you guys mean about garage envy...BTDT! My son (and only heir) reminded me over Thanksgiving that I've worked my whole life so that I could enjoy my retirement, he then asked..."so what are you waiting for on the garage"? It's great to have the freedom to be a bit self-indulgent without guilt.

I've already heard from a couple buddies that "you can never have too big a shop"...fortunately/unfortunately the local zoning and neighborhood covenants dictate the maximum size, that's what I am building.

Having the existing garage, for dirty work, and the new garage, for maintenace and storage/display, should afford me the opportunity to keep the new one clean. That's the plan anyway.

I'll be posting updates.

Ray

Oh yes, as far as the phone number and address...

Sites like whowhere.com and others have pretty much rendered anonymity obsolete. Most of the unsolicited contacts I've experienced have been good...at worse, harmless. That said, backup systems are in place...Caller ID, Neighborhood Watch, alarm system, Max (my 95 lb. Boxer), and a pair of vintage German 38s.

But, I sincerely do appreciate your concern!

Ray

blkcorvair,

Is that a golf cart with a plow on it?....kewl

I built my garage in 93. Had a 2-car that was built for carriages. Tore it down and built a 24X36 3-car. Poured 8" floor and 10'6" walls and 2 9' tall doors one single the other double. Had 7 cars in it at one time. DUH! Still not big enough 14 years later. After moving tools and equipment in and tearing down my restore project and building shelves and work bench, should have went 2 story.

nice though - it suits

Surely does suit. Even with the snow should be warm and friendly inside.

Since we are sharing about our "playhouses", I thought I would share my hangout, my fathers dream, that he completed just 2 years before Cancer took him from our lives - he was happy to see his dream realized & now we do our best to use it & enjoy as he would have wanted. I got the british car bug from him growing up on stories of his MGA.
Structure with upstairs included is just shy of 4000 square feet, rear section 28x38 Car shop with 13' ceilings, front section 28x32 wood working shop with 10' ceilings. Built by my father with help from friends & family, poured concrete with our own V-8 powered cement mixer, rough cut lumber from our property - big job  Some of the features are an in ground hoist, 2 ton overhead trolly chain fall, storage mezzanine in both shops, bathroom, upstairs is unfinished storage with an area for pool table & 2 old pinball machines :smile:I apologize for pics that have my 79 F100 & not my Midget, but she hasn't needed as much shop time, as Ol' Yeller did.

Nice Shop!

LOL, I had almost forgotten about snowdrifts and icecicles. My problem is that its too hot to work in my shop at least 1/2 of the year. It's a 14X25 cinder block rollup surrounded by a sea of black asphalt facing the afternoon sun. I put a second floor loft over the back half to store parts and bolted a Harbor Freight electric hoist to the roof truss. Sorry, no pics yet...

Man Jer, it looks better than a lot of homes.

my mother has never seen the humor in the garage being over twice as big as her house
garage is partially a recycle project, used windows/doors/light fixtures, front columns were salvaged street light poles that had been written off from car accidents, verandah brackets were a winter welding project...

Anyway, anyhow, whatever, it is super.
