New fuel tank

Our fuel tank has a hole rusted through the top so we got a new one today from VB. Carla and I got the old one out and hope to install the new one tomorrow. Should we paint the new one? It feels like it's coated with something sort of greasy but is unpainted. Thoughts/suggestions ?? Thanks.

P.S. This is in the MGB : )

Possibly a cosmoline-like protectant? I'd be for cleaning it and painting it with at least a good Rustoleum coat. Something like their Bar-B-Que black.

I cleaned my new tank up, then used a truck bed liner on the top and a good enamel on the sides and bottom.

A really nice job Rick ! You do good work...wish you were working on ours

We enameled the tank yesterday and put it in today. It looks good and no leaks, etc.

Thought ya'all might like to see some pics. First is the hole in the top of the tank we discovered. THEN what came out of the tank after removal !! It's a wonder the car ever moved with all this junk in the fuel tank. HUGE chunks of rust and, of course, finer stuff too.
