new fuel tank

I'm looking for opinions related to the installation of a new fuel tank in my 80 B.
First, I purchased a new tank, also bought the tank seal kit through moss awhile back. Is there any down side to using the sealer and do you recommend using it?
Also,,,,, just because I'm pretty anal,,,,, I'm thinking about getting the tank powder coated. Any opinions? Or am I just being rediculous?
Thanks for the help>

I assume the seal kit you are referring to is the strips that go between the gas tank and bottom of the boot...by all means, use them to isolate the two metal surfaces from each other and allow for air to circulate.

Personally, I thing the powdercoat is slight overkill, but I did spray an extra two coats of Rustolium on my new tank before I put it in. More importantly, I also painted the bottom of my boot floor with POR15 too.

But then, what is wrong with being a little anal? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

The tank seal I was speaking of is the three part,,,,, cleaner/etch/seal,,,, for the inside.
Thanks for the POR15 tip, hadn't thought that far yet.

Most MGB tanks rust from the top down. Use rust preventive paint on the outside of the tank with several coats on the top. Also paint the under side of the boot. You should not have a problem with the tank rusting from the inside out. Just use a good gas stablizer if you put the car up in the winter.

I have heard that on Healey fuel tanks there is a screen (filter) on the fuel line pick up. When you use the etch, cleaner, sealer you plug the screen filter which is inaccessable, since you can't get inside the tank. Blowing air back through the fuel might or might not keep the filter unplugged. I don't know if there is a filter inside the MG tank or not, but if there is, be careful.
