New fan shroud - great results

Well today, I did a bit of "redneck engineering" and created a temporary fan shroud from corrugated plastic and duct tape.

The results were really worthwhile.

Yesterday, while driving, after the engine heated up, the temperature at the thermostat hit nearly 90C. Today, (with the shroud)the coolant temp never went above 75C, even when I stopped right at the top of a long steep hill which usually caused a noticeable shift in the temperature gauge.

At idle there seems to be at least two maybe three times as much air flowing through the radiator. Just as importantly, there is now airflow over the entire radiator, not just immediately behind the fan.

The shroud consists of a 1.5 " deep box covering the entire radiator, and further 1.5" surround for the fan.

The only problem with the current set up is that duct tape seems to loosen up 70C and while driving around it started hitting the fan and making lots of extra noise.

Cool, get yourself some aluminum and pop rivets and make the final model, or go to a heating/air conditioning shop and have them make one for you.

I bet a simulat setup would do wonders for other cars.
