New Control Head

There was much discussion recently about back orders from vendors. I thought I'd share the good news that one critical item I've been waiting for was at the door when I came home this afternoon, the long awaited control head from TRF is shipping!

The item looks good; appears very well made. It will be a while before I install mine, probably this fall when I replace the complete wiring harness with a new one, so I will not be able to pass along any technical/fit information until then.

If it works as good as it looks I'll be happy, especially when considering the price. I locked in my order/backorder during the Winter Sale, so I wound up paying about half of the going rate.

There's a couple pictures of the unit at:

All in all, I've been pretty lucky in the back order category. TRF has filled mine quickly and Moss has had none at all.

Good luck with your installation.

That's a very good question. I've never owned a car that used one, at least that I know of.

Andy is correct. This unit is mechanical in nature and wears with usage. High quality used control heads bring a significant price; there's one on ebay right now that is approaching $100 and will likely go for near, or maybe more than, the price of the new replacement. For those units that no longer function correctly or are not present at all, as in the case of my TR3, alternatives are often found. In the case of my car, the turn signal function was moved to a (non-stock) toggle switch added to the dash. I'm looking forward to returnig the dash to it's original configuration and installing the new control head this fall when I redo the interior and wiring harness.
