New choke cable install

Trying to install new choke cable in my '74 TR6. Seems that the heater unit is prohibiting the proper alignment of the choke cable to come through the switch plinth. Tried to adjust new cable by bending the cast piece connected to the choke knob...broke the @$#@ thing. What am I doing wrong. Also, does the choke cable go through the firewall in the same hole along with the heat cable?

It is a pain to get them in properly, but it can be done. I fed mine through the firewall first and then while it was hanging loose at the carbs, I fed it into the plinth and tightened it down on that side first. Then I did the carbs.

And on mine, they both use the same hole.

I was really careful on my last install, as it was a very expensive triple choke cable and I did NOT want to break that one.
