New BJ8 - brake caliper fouls on wheel spokes

I have recently acquired my 64 BJ8 Ph1. It has been standing for 10 years so I have spent the past few weeks getting it back to road worthy condition. As the front brake calipers were siezed I obtained a set of exchange new calipers and tried to fit them last night. All was well except for the the fact that the whhel spokes now foul on the caliper so that the wheels will not spin. I re assembled them again but this time with a washer btween the mounting bracket and caliper to space them off short distance.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should there be a shim spacer there as standard?

Hi Jeepster
There are two different BJ8 calipers, changed at number 26705 from memory.
I don't know what the difference is but maybe you've got the wrong set. There are no spacers in mine and they don't hit the spokes. I have a BJ8 PhII with 72 spoke wheels.

NO !!!, check with that supplier and see what he sold you. All BJ8 calipers are of the same size.

There are some very thin shims used sometime to centraly locate the rotor in the caliper.------Keoke

I had another look today to see if I could identify the problem.
The old and new calipers are exactly the same. Same dimensions, same code numbers etc.
The only difference being, my old calipers had a slight champher to the casting on the outer edge and my new ones do not. That is why they foul.I will call the supplier tomorrow.
