New 69 Sprite Owner

I just picked up my Sprite on Sunday and have been working to get it in running order. Today I finally got the engine running and decided to make sure the trans worked before I had worked on the brakes, well that was a bad idea I ran straight into a concrete wall. Don't worry it just bent the bumper in a little, I was able to pull it back out.

I got the brakes working after doing a little bleeding, I think I still need to bleed them more though because it takes some pumping to feel pressure on the pedal.

Anyways I am completely new to this engine (1275) and I am not sure how to get the dual carbs tuned and set the idle speed.

My car also has had the rears converted to wire wheels and I will need help trying to identify what kind they are should I want to get a set of all 4.

Although the twin carbs often tend to get "blamed" for poor running, they are actually quite simple and reliable. Be sure you have good plugs, points, plug wires, distrib cap, proper timing, correct valve adjustment, clean fuel filter and clean air filters.
If you do start to work on the carbs, be sure that the pistons are filled with light oil (3-in-1 is good) and be sure that the pistons slide up and down easily. Then remove the three screws that hold on each float bowl and clean out any sludge in the bottom of the bowl.
A reasonable way to get the idle screws about even (to adjust idle speed) is to back them both out until they no longer hit their respective stops...then turn them both in exactly the same amount until a decent idle speed (~800 RPM) is achieved.
If all of this does not result in decent running, you may want to go back and check mixture strength (by adjusting the heights of the main jets) and float levels.
Sounds like someone has put an entire wire-wheel rear end from a Sprite or Midget in your car. The wheels are probably stock Spridget wire-wheels.

I changed the plugs, and fuel filter, the distrib cap and rotor look fine so I am going to change the plug wires today before I try messing with the carbs at all.

It appears my carbs are what the Moss catalog calls SU HS-2 (1 1/4") whatever that all means.

Here is a picture of those wheels, can anyone tell what brand the wheels are, any clues on where to look to find out?
