Hey guys, my dash in my triumph herald was was too far gone from all the years... It is a 65 herald LHD... does anyone know of anyone that has a parts car that I can buy the dash off of? Unfortunately most of these cars were in europe with RHD, that won't help... Any help is appreciated.. It is the only thing holding up driving it... also I have the windsheild out for new gaskets and it would be nice to put the dash in while the windsheild is out...

Thanks

OK, I'm new here so I don't know much at all, but you might try www.britishmiles.com . They've got lots of salvaged parts from all types of British cars. We're heading down there this afternoon to pick up some stuff for my Spit. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jack, this has been a problem for many years for many of us. You could do what some long-ago previous owner did on (to) one of my early Herald convertibles: build your own cheesy-looking dash from scrap plywood. It's better than nothing, but not by a whole lot. OH, and it looks especially unconvincing if it's painted flat red. Aargh!

Several of us have chatted informally over the past several years about finding a way to reproduce a basic Herald dash shell in either fiberglass or possibly plastic instead of the original pressboard (although pressboard does have its "forgiving," if not truly energy-absorbing, qualities upon impact). But we've never managed to find enough people at one time with a desperate need. Maybe someday....

Meanwhile, you might try an appeal through the Herald e-mail list: <triumph_herald@yahoogroups.com>. I've been able to match up a couple of dashes with grateful new owners in the past, but I don't currently know anyone with extras.

Is yours just completely gone, or just too warped, rotted, etc., to use?

Thanks guys, the UK place I already tried but they only had access to RHD dashes...Britishmiles was the rudest phone call I have ever made... they were so put off that I would take their time to call about this part......

Andy thanks for the idea of the yahoo group... I will try them out... the dash is broken in about 20 places, I took it to about 5 auto upholster shops here in town and none would even try to fix it. I tried with glue and epoxy but it is in pretty bad shape... A fiberglass dash would be nice... might hurt during an accident like you said... thanks I will keep looking

[/ QUOTE ]Is the dash badly water damaged and warped, or just "broken"? I'm wondering if there's any chance you can do some fiberglass repair from the underside to reinforce it, and then possibly use a bit of plastic body filler on the top side as needed to fill cracks and reshape? Unless this is the 948 or early 1200 dash, the padded vinyl would cover any resulting imperfections that the wood facia part doesn't cover. Just thinking/typing out loud.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Don't hold your breath on the French Connexion as I am having trouble with AOL accepting Yahoo mail and the French site is yahoo.

Wow, that's very odd. We were just down there on Thursday and they were the nicest people in the world. The guy talked to us for two hours about all things British. And this was after telling us that they do 95% of their business through phone orders. I think the only reason we stopped talking was because he had to go home and help his 8 year old with his science fair project. Plus, they've got a veritable British car "junkyard" behind their shop of all kinds of MG's, Triumphs, Jags, and Austin Healeys.

I'm taking my car back down there next week for them to do some diagnosing of my handling problem. If I remember, I will ask him myself if he's got what you're looking for. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jerseygirl, I've run into the attitude Jack got before as well. Sometimes it's just someone having a bad day but there are others that just seem to think if you're not a car that they support then bugger off (ie MG/Triumph parts companies that tell me they don't sell parts for TVRs when I'm calling about TR6 engine components, or Triumph vendors when I was considering buying a Stag and looking for Stag V8 engine parts). I haven't used British Miles but there are some used parts companies who have attitudes like this (won't name names since they can't defend themselves). Since Jack has a Herald maybe someone just doesn't deal with non-sportscars?

Thanks guys, still looking.... I think I am almost set on trying to fix it myself and deal with the NON-professional look. It wasn't that hard to take out, so if I ever do run into one, I could switch out pretty quick...

JerseyGirl, maybe it was a bad day... I didn't even get to telling him what part I wanted before I was hung up on!! Maybe it is my southern greeting that made them turn into the troll voice. If you could ask them that would be great!!! It is the whole dash, not the wood facia, but the cardboard, vinyl cover....

thanks, Also, thanks for the french connection also

Thanks to all for the help

Jack

Thanks for all your help, looks like I finally found someone to redo the dash for me... I tried but it just did not look professional looking.. so I hope this guy can do a good job for me... I will get it back Mid March....

Thanks again

Jack
