Need tranny input shaft spline dimension

I am trying to order a new clutch disc from Moss and they keep sending one that has a spline that is too small. My old disc measures approx. 1.253" across the splines. I would like someone to confirm that this is the outside diameter of the tranny shaft (mine is attached to the engine in the car for weight during restoration). Thanks for your help.

Hi John,
You don't give much clue to what model & year car you have.
The BN2, BN4, BN6 have a 1.125" shaft. BN7 & later may have a larger shaft.

Hi John, I can not confirm that dimension for the 1966 BJ8. I checked both my spare clutch disk and a NOS input shaft. Both show a nominal dimension of 1.125"---Fwiw---Keoke-?

P.S. What is the Diameter of the clutch you were sent?

1-1/8 x 10 should cover all Big Healeys.

Before the reproduction parts supply ramped up, it was not uncommon to find 6 cyl. GM (Stovebolt) clutch discs in Healeys.

Yeah Randy, that might be what he has or a badly worn old one.---Keoke

Dave,
My car is a 64 BJ8 phase I. The old disc is a borg & beck, made in England with the number 50052 stamped on it. I did not pay attention to the fit when I removed it from the shaft but the disc splines look fine and sharp!
Keoke,
The replacement that Moss sent is 1.139" diameter and made in England. I guess maybe I had better keep this one until I can confirm the fit with the tranny removed. The fun and games continue! Thanks for the help.

John

John,

My early BJ7 gearbox has a 1.14" splined shaft and the clutch splines measure about 1.15"

Cheers,
John

I pulled the tranny loose from the engine enough to try the new Moss disc and it was the correct disc. I also tried the old disc and it also fit and it was not that loose, I was expecting it to be very loose. End result is that the 1 1/8 x 10 spline is correct. Thanks for your help and have a good day!

John
