There's a lotta wire to go through that small hole. Should I start with the big grommet in the firewall? Any lubrication such as soapy water or silicone spray?
I did mine a couple of years ago. My harness which was NOS came with an incorrect rigid grommet. Tom Monaco of Tom's Toys sent me one with a membrane in the center, which turned out to be correct. Mine is for a 1-3/4" hole with a 1/2" ID.
I installed the grommet onto the harness before installing in the firewall. Can't remember which group of wires I worked through the small hole. No lubrication. It's a stretch but can be done.
I never met a grommet that didn't end up with a slit on it if fidgeting was getting tiresome. It just taks a small attitude adjustment to lay in the harness and put the grommet in when you are done. Yes, it will have a slit in it but you can seal it with a dab of silicone seal.
Richard - If you spoke with Tom, I guess he didn't remember the conversation we had - it was a couple of years ago. The grommet shown below is probably Moss 682-205 as the dimesions are per above. I did not need to slit this to get it over the harness.
