LOOKING to do this right. Trying to mount the fuse box in the correct area and position. Many cars I see the fuse box is crowded against the harness . I have that large hole where the fuse box is normally mounted don't know what it is for? Commission # TS67708 and listed as a 1960.

Your pic shows the correct position for the fuse box but the hole looks too big.
The box is held in place with a sheet metal screw. The pilot hole is bigger than 1/8" but smaller
than 1/4". Even though it looks crowded, nothing touches. The I removed the box cover for clarity.

There is a clip that goes in that hole, at least on earlier cars (I don't know about post-60K bodies). The hole itself is about 1/2", so the photo looks pretty close to me. The clip is FC2805. After the clip is in the hole, the screw penetrates the clip and locks it in place. Again, on the earlier cars at least, the screw was not a regular sheet metal screw but what the catalog calls a " GKN Parker Kalon 'J' type". Main difference is no pointed tip but the threads are different as well, more square in cross section than a sheet metal screw (almost like an ACME thread).

Sorry I don't have a photo of the clip or screw, but here are some screws with similar threads (wrong head obviously) that perhaps show what I'm talking about.

Kinda like the fender bolts/screws for TR4/250s? I was thinking of welding a nut on a fender washer and gluing it in place and using a regular 1/4" with a hex or slotted head.

Yeah. In fact, that's what is in my photo, except I cut them down to mount the radiator fan shroud on the Stag.

The clips are only $.80 @ TRF. Since they're used in other places as well, I just bought a half dozen or so. And a regular sheet metal screw will work well enough with them, if you don't mind the sharp point sticking out inside the car (or grind the point off).
