Need performance tire opinions

Hi all, I need a new set of tires for my MGC GTS. I'm currently running Bridgestone Potenza S-02 225/50R15 and I'm happy with them. Unfortunately they don't come in this size anymore.

Does anyone have experience with the S-03 version? Or any other high-performance tire for a similar application? Price is not a major concern but maximum performance is. The car puts out a tremendous amount of power and I'd like to keep it under control!

EDIT: I am now looking for the best tire possible in 225/60R15. Money is not a major concern, within reason.

I very much like the ~Toyo Proxes RA-1~ that I've been running for the last 2 years on my racer.

This Toyo is the tire that most Spec-Miatas are running. It's really a DOT-legal race tire. On the street with reasonable alignment, you might get 6000 to 12000 miles on these tires.....don't expect any real sticky tire to wear much better.

I also liked the Kumho Ecsta V700 DOT/race tires I was running, but they're not available in my size anymore (but maybe in your's).

For a more normal-wearing street tire, I've been happy with the Yokohama AVS ES100 on my Miata (this is a high-performance "summer tire"...not so good in rain)

"Back in the Day" I had Yokohama A001R (165/70/13) on my GT6 for autocrossing. :driving: Pretty good performance tires, DOT Legal, drove them on the street too. (Don't try this in rain or snow!) Unfortunately the selection of 13" performance tires has really dried up. Yokohama doesn't make anything in those sizes any more. I was looking around and all I could find were some Kumho V70A and Hoosier RA6 in 13" to fit on my new-old 5" wide rims. Any suggestions?

You can get the "street" Proxes (Tpt) or Faulkens in that aspect ratio.

Both are reputed to be good, high-performance street tires. I haven't used either, but the Miata-crowd really like the Falkens...probably similar to the Yoko ES100s I have.
These tires are certainly not as sticky as the DOT/race tires I mentioned previously.

Hi Steve,
What was the tire on that Exige we were looking at on one of your Malibu runs? That could be fun.

yeah, those could be fun, if you want to get new tires every month

On a more affordable note: Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position tires. They're rated best in class on Tire Rack. However, 215/60 is the biggest they have for 15" rims.

I have the Potenza S-02 now and it's a good tire. I'm not sure if the 960 is above or below that in performance. I need a really stiff sidewall above all, because of the weight and power of the car.
