Need parts source

A bit of a situation this morning. My bad, don't ask.

As a result I am now in need to both rear light, plastic
lenses parts. I have both white reverse lenses and one red
side marker. The rest are in small pieces in the road.
The metal frame is untouched and good. The bulbs and holders
are fine. All I need are the colored plastics.

The Big Three want a bloody fortune for these pieces of
colored plastic. Anyone know of another source that might
not be so expensive? If anyone has a few pieces stashed
away I will pay a decent price plus shipping

Greatly appreciated

Start watching eBay. The "so termed driver units" are going for reasonable numbers, but the NOS survivors are out of site.

Dale I may have some of what yer looking for, I'll look for them when I get home today & PM ya...

Bill

Would your insurance cover the replacement for you? After all, this was an accident, right?

Sorry to see this set back. One thing that might tide you over until you get the parts you are looking for is to collect ALL the pieces and use CA ("cyano acrylate" I can't spell it) to clue them back to gether. I have done this in the past and it holds out longer then I have been willing to live with the cracked lenses.

Inquiring minds have to know, what did you back into? Any other damage?

Dale
That's not how you get the hood latch to release!!!

Paul
I think went you suggested pedal to the medal, he
was in the Jeep!

Joe,

I've said it before and I'll say it again. That car is pure evil.

Haven't any of you guys ever seen the movie Christine??? That red devil started backing up and going forward and crashing into things all on it's own.

We will know for sure if Dale wakes up tomorrow and the car is all back together and the lights are like before the "so called incident".

Don't get behind that thing in the garage...

I am convinced Pedro's Crypty was related to Christine but Amos is from the good side of the tracks.

Amos may be a good car, but what make you think that Crypty is really gone?

So far, I see no evidence pointing to that conclusion.

Looks like the result of excessive wind turbulence from driving at high speeds. The coconuts along the side of the road just get sucked up into the vortex. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

...i'm beginning to see a connection between england and coconuts that might explain their apparent ability to migrate...

maybe swallows don't carry them at all! but i'm afraid this topic is already horribly off topic as it is...

Tinster, sorry to hear about the...problem. lenses are pretty much expensive everywhere, although some places are a bit cheaper than others. ebay would be the best bet for cheap, but be prepared to wait.

Hey Dale, I don't see any dents in the sheet metal. How did all of that damage occur?
Did Pedro come by and knock the lenses out with a hammer?

Thanks one and all! I sure appreciate all the generous
help - so does Amos.

Statistics say-Most accidents happen close to home.

In this case, 200 yards from home at two nasty speed
bumps, with Wendy dead sticking it home, up hill.

I was pullin' close chase duty in the Grey Ghost.
Amos dipped on back side of the bump, the Ghost
rose on the front and bumper clashed with plastic.
The double crunches were sickening, I'll tell you.

Nope Paul, Amos is cool! Just few DPO Pedro/Ctypty final
moments of grief before the evil spirits are gone for good.

But it felt SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO dammmmmmming good to be
in Amos yesterday driving by PDO Pedro's house and see
Pedro's purple minivan on a flatbed being towed away.

ebay is far from cheap in price but maybe quality
IMO, it's all over the map on both counts. If you don't know the seller, it's even a crap-shoot as to whether the part really is what he says it is.

For example, I picked up a TR2-3 steering box (for parts) that was advertised as a TR4 rack and pinion unit. None of the TR4 guys wanted it, so I got it for minimum bid, about $5 as I recall. Kinda balances out the "TR3 lever shocks" that turned out to be for an MG or something.

But you've got to know the parts, and what they are worth. It's not at all unusual to see well-used parts bring more on eBay than new ones do from Moss et al. And "NOS" has to be even more abused than "Rare".

Just keep in mind that you are dealing with the equivalent of a used car lot salesman that knows he will never have to face you; and you should do fine /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Let's see if we can start a phrase translation table :

NOS => defective from factory
RARE => Can't find it at AutoZone
UNTESTED => Doesn't work

Dale, I have some old, dirty and far from perfect plastic for you. Not enough for a complete set, but you are welcome to what I have.

2-Orange lenses (indicators)
2-white (very dirty) (reverse)
1-left hand side marker (red)
1-brake/stop/running lens (red)

They are yours for the taking. I can post them tomorrow. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
