Need info on Rover K / 4AGE swap

I'm considering engines for an upcomming swap and need info on the rover K.

Which one will fit and what trans will it require?

I'd like as much HP as possible and won't mind cutting this particular car.

On second thought, it looks like the 4AGE will be less hassle overall.

Who was it that said they got a silver top w/ trans, harness and ECU for $600? Where did they get that from?

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

They must be imported as they were not used in US models.

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

Do a search of old MG World magazines....they had an article on a K swap that was fast as lightening.

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

Lemme go through my old copies...the mag is out of publication now.

Nothing like this to give a little inspiration.

For those who a re concerned. This is RB "parts car" that I bought for $100 that had a 1275 in it and a CB "conversion". The car is too nice to use as a parts car but too hacked up to restore.

I figure make a toy out of it and everybody wins.

Go for it! Have fun!

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

I tried searching MG World's web site and couldn't find anything. Seems like I can get a 4AGE for about what shipping would cost to get a Rover K here.

If I could just figure out howe to get a Hyundai 2.0 convertred to RWD I'd be good to go. 140 hp stock w/ 10.3 compression from the factory. I have two 1.8's here (130 hp. same comp). My dirt track car has a 2.0 in it and it screams. Nothing in it's class can out pull it. I really like the motor and they are CHEAP !!!

He's still around, but doesn't post much. I saw him a few weeks ago before I moved up to Wyoming and as of then, the Midget still wasn't running due to wiring issues. He's also working on his MGB and has other projects + work that probably keep him from posting updates.

I hope he gets the Midget running soon though....I really want to drive it (and will make s trip down to Denver to do so!).

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

Yeah what has happened with "Jayrz's" project. By the way, I believe the common 4 valve engine only has a lousey 120 hp.

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

I don't know but Trevor's 1275 with supercharger and the mod's he's made to it qualify as a pretty stout Sprite.

And the 1275 they built for Classic MotorSports claiming 107 at the flywheel and turning 6.3 0-60 times nothing to sneeze at.

And if you want to see something else for a swag Google themite.com and see what a Turbo'd or Supercharged Miata Drivetrain does for a Spridget.Lot's of interesting swaps. The Mite build gives lots of detail and lots of pics.

Bugsy my '68 is currently the same color BRG with BE Bonnet and Rollbar. Stripes in White will be part of my winter project.

Don't know if it's helpful to you or not, but I noticed Frontline's website has a section dealing with the K-Series Spridget:

Thanks, seems pricey though. Toyota looks to be the winner $$$ wise.

I think I can live w/ the 4AGE as it's supposed to be the same thing as the Ford Cosworth engine only made in Japan.

Powerful Ford motor in small English car makes sense. Japanese quality makes sense too.

I've gotta get the shop straightened out first. That may take a bit.

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

What ever happened to the wild mazda rotary swaps that were being done a few years ago? I believe a rx3 engine is a drop in with no sheet metal or frame mods. Anyone have links to that swap?
KA.

Re: Need info on Rover K swap

I've always considered rotary. Found a 205 hp 13B turbo set up complete, 25K miles for $750. It really got me to thinking. I think I'd rather pistons in this car.
