TR4/4A Need help with clutch issue...

I'm preparing a 66 4A for sale since it has the typical rust frame issues and I want to pass it on to an enthusiast that has welding skills. I had installed a 4A clutch kit . I turned on the ignition and the engine fired up right away but there was a metal to metal clanging sound so I shut it down right away. I pulled the gearbox (not too much hassle as the old drivers side floor is cutaway and the trans cover is off). Anyway I could not see anything amiss in the clutch flywheel area but one of the starter bolts was loose so I tightened that up and checked the torque on everything else. Thinking I had the problem resolved I reinstalled the gearbox, fired it up and the same noise? I crawled underneath (car is on 6 jack stands) inspection cover off, noticed a ring gear bolt, possibly more than one scraping the block or is it the wrong pressure plate I'm looking at? What did I do or not do to cause this situation? How much of a gap should there be between the flywheel and the block? Guess the gearbox will have to come out yet again. Any advice most appreciated.:confusion:

I had the flywheel bolts loosen up on my TR-3a. It sounded like what you described. Its worth a check if you have it torn apart.
