I won the bid on the dual SUs for $71.

Shipping was clearly stated at $3.25, which I thought was ridiculously cheap, but who am I to argue? This is the guy that got hit by the hurricane and I haven't heard from him for 2+ weeks. I sent his money order for $74.25 on 8/30/05.

TODAY I get this message from him:

Hello, I received your payment for the carbs. I made an error in shipping. The amount should have been $12.93. This Hurricane sure has messed me up down here in S. Miss. Thanks, Mike

Now I know he was involved with the damage from Katrina, but don't tell me the hurricane messed you up when the auction started August 22, a week before the hurricane and the shipping price was set when he posted the carbs.

Do I send him the difference of $9.68 or do I 'call' him on this and explain that the shipping was clearly posted in the auction? I haven't responded to him yet.
 
Would the extra $10 have been a deal breaker? If not, consider just paying it and chalking it up to some people suck- you've got your carbs. If so, stand on "principle" and demand he send it for the price stated...and prepare to get mad and frustrated alot.

If you decide to go through with it, tell him you'll send the extra $$ after you get the carbs in hand. After all, it was his mistake and he's already got $70+ of your dollars.

Since it is more realistic that the $13 is the true shipping cost, I would just pay it. Now if he tried to charge me $40.00, I'd probably fight it because the listing was a "contract".
 
I agree with both of you. Unless you think that the total of $85 is too much for those carbs, then I'd have him stick to the original shipping price. I really don't know what those carbs are worth.

And I WILL have him ship the carbs first, since he has both my money AND my carbs at this point.

Remember - we're not curing cancer here - it's just carbs and it's just a few bucks.

If they never show up then you reserve the right to freak out.

You could always split the difference. It was his mistake not yours, and he isn't losing any money as he would if it were a new retail item. $85 still does seem fair for a complete, undamaged set of carbs.

IF they show up and have bushing wear, dirt, jets oblong from age, then dispute payin' the remainder of shipping... if they're bespoke, send th' check. It's a bargain IMHO.

$13 for shipping doesn't seem too unfair. The problem with splitting the diff or holding yer ground with $3 is the guy will dink you with a negitive feedback. I had that happen once and it frosted me. It is a reputation thing.

I could care less about my reputation. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif And besides, he is the one that posted the shipping fee of $3.25 when he listed the item. Clearly.

I'm sending him the rest of the money, after the carbs are here and inspected. IF they're not as good as they looked in the picture, he can eat the $10. He had no reserve on those SUs, they could have sold for $40 instead of $70.
 
I buy and sell on Ebay. If it was me I would send him the extra money. He probably made and honest mistake.
