need help ordering paints

Next weekend I am finally taking the tr6 to San Antonio, but pull the body off, and do the frame.

I was also going to blast everything I have off the car and paint what I can. So that means I need to get an order in for paint. Since I paid the 35$ for free shipping I will probably just order it from eastwood unless there are better products out there.

Does anyone have any feedback on what paint I should use for the following. I am mostly concerned with fading, followed by color and texture.

1. Black parts for the interior (ex. defrost vents and the like)
2. Grill, underplate for the grill, headlight buckets
3. lower front spoiler
4. hinges for the bonnet and boot lid (should these be body color?)

Also, if I get the body cleaned next week, can I lay a coat of POR15 or Eastwood's rust encapsulator as a base coat over the entire tub or will it end up being too thick?

The tub, hood and boot hinges, and other body parts should be painted with a two part epoxy, then primer filler, sanded, then top coated in the same color. You should decide which auto paint system you will be using and stick with it through out the painting process. I am partial to PPG, but have used Dupont. Eastwood offers House of Kolor paints of which I am not familiar. Other single and base clear coat systems are available.

Eastwood or POR15 properly applied to the frame then top coated with products like chassis black is used by many.

I would not put POR15 on the body and plan to paint over it. There could be compatability and /or adhesion issues with the POR15 and other paint systems (the POR15 could lift and wrinkle or the next paint might not stick to the POR15 causing it to peel off later). POR15 says that you can sand the POR15 and apply one of their special intermediate primers which would allow you to then begin using another paint system. Personally, that sounds like a lot of work that still leaves the possibility of a paint failure.

Most of the paint manufacturers will recommend the same thing Ray did. Strip the body and apply an epoxy primer (some manufacturers recommend a metal prep. step before the epoxy - this is usually a phosphate treatment of some sort). Then use primer filler, etc. as required to get it smooth and flat. Then topcoat.

thanks. I just wanted to make sure that since I am doing this I only have to do it once.

any advice on the random parts?

I prefer to simplify my life and tend to use as few products as possible. On my restore, I used SEM rust shield with a hardener for things like fender brackets, suspension parts, etc. This paint sprays on nice and sets up well and is easy to cleanup after. Like POR and Eastwood, it is UV sensitive and will fade so a top coat is needed. I also use this product in areas that are prone to rust or have rust and are not visible(like inside doors, under the back deck and so forth).

Everywhere else, I use the epoxy primer and appropriate filler priomer or just topcoat, which would include the matte black areas.

You may want to check out this site for assistance in paint preperation, body work, and painting. They have a nice set of "how to do" sections.
