Good morning all,
I need some of you MB stalwards to maybe go back in the cranial archives for a minute.
The guy I got my 74.5 GT from back in May can not find the ownership for it. I trusted this guy because he is a successfull businessman, own lots of collectable cars, etc. He has all the import papers from when he brought the car over from New York in 2001, but the M.O.T will not accept that.
The information he has given me is that it was owned by a DR. ROBERTS, who he tells me, lived in Hamilton, Ontario. The car was stored in a barn in BATAVIA NEW YORK along with a 73 Citroen which was also purchased and brought to Toronto by the guy I got it from. It still sits neglected too, where I found the MGB. Apparently, this DR. ROBERTS moved to TEXAS around 1999. When I took posession of the car in May, it was and still is painted red. Looking in the engine bay, and when I removed some of the poor paint finnish, you can see that the origional colour is ACONITE. It was painted just before it was brought over to Toronto. Now, ACONITE on a 1974.5 MGB GT is quite rare, so perhaps somone will recall this car.
The VIN # for the car is: GHD5UE367737G 11 / 74
Thanks if anyone can help us track down this DR. or even an owner before him , as I have it in for rockers rails etc over the winter, and I will surely not get this done without this paperwork looked after. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If you contacted the Bureau of Motor vehicles (or whatever they call it in New York), they could probably assist you in obtaining a replacement title.

Well, the guy I got it from hasn't been any help this week, and I went on the New York State - Department of Motor Vehicles web site and put the information it for locating lost Titles. It would not accept the VIN # from the GT. I know that in Ontario, they had to add two digets to the VIN to register them, but, what about down there?
I also found out the the car was brought to Ontario in 1999, not 2001 like I had first understood.
I have a phone # for the DMV in NY, so I will call tomorow.
Otherwise, anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks

I thought i read in a previous thread you were selling the car.........How have you not transfered the ownership yet......Did you not get it when you bought it

Close.. Selling the '78 TR7, reluctantly, and wanting to put the money into the GT, but no, the guy I got it from has the duty papers and such but never regestered it here; and now, "Can't find the ownership." He says, now, he is going to sign an affidaved or somthing, to get the title.. But when will that be? He tells me how much all this will cost HIM for the little I paid for the car, then goes on to talk about his Maserattes, Lotus', Mercedes', boats, his business.... I already dropped in a low milage engine and an overdrive transmission, so I don't want to give up on this car either. I will call NY today and see what they can do I guess.

Paul, recheck your number. The third digit should be a N for roadster and D for GT I believe it should be GHD5UE367737G
Bob

Right you are Bob. Don't know why I had the N in there, but it still doesn't register with the NYS DMV. Maybe I will try a different state.
Thanks for pointing out my ghaff.

Paul
