Need feedback on Dayton wheels

I want to put in my two cents about Hendrix Wire Wheel. They mounted tires on some new 1970's vintage wire wheels purchased in the UK that I had. They trued the wheels and mounted some of their Gillet tires and then shaved them round. The car rolls perfect. No shakes at all. They are good at what they do and are fellow Healey nuts as well. You can't go wrong dealing with them.

healynut, that mustah been mighty dangerous drivin around with a 72 spoke wheel what had only two spokes in it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

heh, you think that's funny. Almost half of those broken spokes were in fact on one wheel. The one wheel had about 27 broken spokes on it. I think the others were 15, 12, and 8. So total broken spokes ~ 50. Not bad after driving about 15K miles eh? Pure crap assembly in India, but I've heard they are better at it now.

So, do they not rotate tires any more at Wal-Mart? It use to be done to get even wear on all tires.

Then how are you going to get them rebalanced??

What about the width of the rim? Has anybody tried 5-1/2"? What about the 16" rims?

I had Alan Hendrix order a set of 16"x6" rims. They look and work great for the small amount of driving I did before the car went into the body shop. Fenders will need to be faired slightly if you go this route. I researched wider tires that were close to the 26" original diameter in 16" before I laid the cash down. Found many choices in 205/60s, which is the size I went with.

I am runing 5 1/2" x 15" 72 spoke wheels no problems.--Keoke- /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nonod.gif

healynut, thats why the only thing i think ive ever indirectly purchased from india are perhaps spices, the coment i made earlier about watching these things rust before ones own eyes was true, a local parts supplier in ct. had ordered a set for someone to be put on a healey that was going to be sold the weels were inside the store for a week and a half every time i went to buy something at the store in that time period those wheels had twice the rust on them since the previous viewing, it happened that i ordered "daytons" from this place mounted with the obligatory "das veeertishteeens" and of course i rolled one of mine next to the "indian roulette wheels" to compare, for the extra few bucks you cant say that one even has a choice. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nonono.gif

I have a set(5) new 72-spoke MWS painted wire wheels from England that I am not going to use. I will sell them at a deal as they are surplus to me (I paid 135 Pounds Sterling a piece for them). I have just not had a chance to put them on Ebay, etc. Let me know if you or anybody else are interested. I would prefer to make a deal for someone on the board as opposed to a "stranger."

Do you have pictures of the 16" wheels on your Austin. I found some 16" tires with a 27 inch outer diameter that fit my Austin without changes to the sheet metal. Some of the early 100's and racing 3000 had 16" wheels

Kinda sorta. This was a shot just before the car went to the body shop.
