Need Advice

I have a similar problem with my SU pump. Weak stream. I checked out the Facet pumps online and there seems to be quite a few models with different pressures. Can anyone tell me which Facet pump would be the correct replacement for the SU on a 74 midget?

Think anything over 3 lb pressure will cause problems.

Recomend installing the pump on a 45 deg. angle. This supposedly helps the air bubbles escape. Maybe just an air bubble working its way up the line. Have one in mine. No problems here. Also next time it dies crack the fuel tank cap to see if the tank is vacumized.. Ive heard of several people drilling small pin hole threw cap with aftermarket pumps.

Scott,

I remembered that as well and tried the pump with the cap off. No change.

I plan to install my pump on the rear bulkhead where my existing one is so it will be pointing straight up and down. Should be easy to prime at least.....

I know it may be overkill, but with my DGV / 1500 setup, I'm putting in a new Carter 'green'. Their p/n 4070, I think. High volume, low-pressure, suited to carbs. About $75, readily available locally. Being low-pressure, I would think it would be well-suited as a replacement for SU units? And, less noisy than a Facet / solid state pump. FWIW.

Okay Guys,

I went by Orielys at lunch. The low pressure pump they had has a sticker with "NEGATIVE GROUND ONLY DO NOT CONNECT POSATIVE" in big red letters.

Mycar is still pos ground, any recs on a pos ground facet pump that I can pickup locally? :frown:

I'm pretty sure that the Facet pump can be installed on neg. or pos. ground. Just that either the red wire must be the ground on pos. ground cars and vice-versa for neg. ground! And mae sure it is the 2.5 psi one!

I think that's correct Mike. At least mine is hooked up Neg. ground.

I just did this over the weekend, it was an aftermarket pump, 4-6 lbs, I have a regulator to step it down. It had two wires one connects to positive and one to negative. I placed some rubber between it and the body as a pacifier.

There was no warning label, check the stores policy on electrical returns.

I noticed mine was louder than I liked. I actually went back to a new Mechanical pump but left the facet pump installed. I use it to prime the system when it sits for a long period of time and like the back-up pump.. It can be installed with a stock diaphram pump and work fine. Run it threw a holley regulator with a single su. Set at 2 lbs.

Well, I got very little experience with fuel pumps with dual SU carbs, the only ones like that I dealt with were Minis with single carbs. Mine has the weber and that is what it had when I got it. That is fine by me because I have dealt with the weber or the holly 5200 for ove 20 years on pintos and other little fords. I know with the dgv you only need enough pressure to fill the float bowls, you can gravity feed them if you have enough drop. The problems are usually with flow or flooding if you have too much pressure to push gas past the needle, especially after you shut the engine off and the fuel expands and this makes it flooded upon restart. I bought several fuel pressure regulators and wouldn't give a nickel for them all back. you just need enough flow and pressure to keep the bowl full when in a hard pull on a hill.
