Hi everyone. Need some advice on how to remove the 4 nuts connecting the exhaust downpipe to the manifold. They are rock solid. I've tried Kroil and using sockets from under the car to no avail. Any recommended tools or how-to tips? Mine is a 72 TR6. Thanks!

It sucks but they will have to be heated to red hot. Best done with the manifold off.
Alternately they can be split off, carefully,so as to not snap off the stud .But either way
DON'T break the studs.

Thanks. I was afraid you were going to say heat. It's just such a hard spot to reach from underneath the car.

Anyone else have any tips? I also heard I could remove the manifold with the downpipe and then work on the manifold and downpipe out of the car (carbs have been removed and the manifold is already unbolted). I've removed the clamps to the intermediate pipes, but I can't seem to separate them. What are your thoughts on that including how to separate them?

Prepare yourself mentally for the need to replace at least one of those studs.
As far as separating 2 sections of exhaust pipes once you've tried all the heat and pipe wrench techniques you may have to resort to cutting 2 or 3 slits in the outer pipe and peeling the outer from the inner as little as possible in order to break the rusted and/or crimped bond.

If you dont pull the manifold off now, you CAN do it later when the bolts break off.
The fun part is, now there is TWICE as much trouble to deal with. Cut off the junk pipe,
remove the header, put it on the bench and save the studs.
Been there ,done that.
