Need a Truck & Trailer in Roanoke,VA to Tow a '67 GT From Union Jack

My car's at Union Jack,a British car shop in Roanoke,
& the owner's passed away.
It's a '67 GT.The engine is inside of the building,and
I don't know if there's any fluid in the transmission,so I don't
want the rear wheels on the ground.
I'm willing to pay somebody to haul it yo our house.
 
do you have AAA? CAA moved the Vauxhall from Toronto to our new home.

In a similar situation once, I rented a U-Haul pickup plus car hauler.

The U-Haul website does not explicitly tell you this, but you can buy miles "in bulk" at a much better price than the usual $1.39 / mile. If you tell them you need to drive 500 miles, for example, they give you a significant break - like $0.50 per mile.
 
Just a thought - but you'll likely need some proof that the engine and the GT are yours, in case you get stopped "in transit".
 
I have pictures of it in the car.
I'm hitting so many dead ends trying to get anything done on this.
I can't find anyone willing to help me out,can't contact the landlord-
nothing on an internet search,phone books,etc.And nobody seems
to be in charge of everything.
Last I heard was that the landlord changed the locks on the building.
 
Doug - you need to get the town (and/or a lawyer) involved. You're trying to recover your property from the estate of someone deceased.

You can look up the business in BBB online records, and see if the deceased was the only owner of the business.

The town knows who owns the building, and can put you in contact, probably through a lawyer you hire to get your property back. You'll probably need more than just pictures to establish your ownership, depending on who is executor of the estate.
 
Finally got hold of the landlord today,& found out that
since it is outside of the building,I can legally remove it.
I do,however,need to wait to legally remove my engine
from inside of the building.Seems that nobody is in charge
in doing anything.
 
What a mess! John (who's passed away) didn't have any plans in the
event that this would happen.Currently,NOBODY'S in charge,the current-
rent hasn't been paid on the building,& I'm sure many people who have
their cars & parts in the shop aren't aware of the situation.
If you have a car,engine,or parts that belong to you in the building,
please contact me & I will keep you informed of what's going on.If your car
is outside of the building,you can legally move it now.
I've tried to contact towing companies about moving my car,but as it's
a holiday week,most are closed today.
 
Doug - on the paperwork (contract) you signed to get the work done, is there any mention of owner's and mechanic's rights?
 
There was no paperwork.I can blame myself for my mistakes,but
I can't change the past.It's at a "Where do I go from here" stage.
I just realized this morning that I have towing on the car through
the collector's insurance I have on the car.I now need to see if they'll
allow it to get it home.

Just thinking out loud here - since rent is owed and multiple people are in the same boat as you, perhaps as a collective all could chip in an equal portion of the rent. Sure, that sucks but it could be worth the money to recover everyone's vehicles? Not sure if that is possible but might be an option??

can you contact the family? they might have some answers. Certainly no landlord is going to begin eviction proceedings after only a month or two - and doubly so in the case of a death.
 
Perhaps a consortium of customers (with stuff inside )could rent the building with the understanding
they would clean up the bits & bobs with the help of the family???

Had a call from Doug yesterday. He has been having issues getting on the forum for the last three or four days. Not sure why.

He has got his car and he has been in the building to see his engine so, so far so good. Sounds like a lot (most) of the guys business was done on a handshake so no documentation for pretty much everything.

I do feel like there is a cautionary tale here.

I discovered his IP was blocked for some reason. I unblocked him and sent him an email.
 
Got the GT back Tuesday,with the help of collector car insurance.
It's now in our garage,awaiting getting the engine back (& back together).
Union Jack (British car repair shop is still a big mess.One guy is trying
to get "Power of Attorney",so he can help sort this big mess out.
There's still about six cars,& numerous engines still in the shop,awaiting
permission to remove.I'm trying to help out by getting people to get their cars
that are parked outside.
